Proof of Heaven

A Harvard neurosurgeon dies and has an experience in Heaven. It sounds amazing - I'm very proud of him for stepping out and sharing his story, especially when you know that people in the medical community have got to be ridiculing this guy.

First, I did read that story a few weeks ago about that neurosurgeon, it was a good one! Second, what the heck with the link? :))

It was funny as heck once I left this one and saw the other one you started! :))

So... What's your thoughts in that article. I have my doubts about what he "saw".

I don't doubt that he saw and experienced something divine because he was changed by it.

May I ask why you doubt what he saw?

I personally liked the article and have no reason to doubt that was his experience especially since most scientist (in my experience) doubt religion even though some might consider themselves christian, the afterlife is a very hard concept for them since it is not something they can prove.

Because of this statement..."From there, Alexander claims to have traveled to "an immense void, completely dark, infinite in size, yet also infinitely comforting." He believes this void was the home of God."

Nowhere in scripture is heaven described as a void, or as a dark place. I give you scripture to compare to what Alexander said.

"The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamp it's lamp." -Rev 21:23

Was that about heaven or the new Jerusalem? (My bible is downstairs and yes I do not feel like walking down to get it. :)) )

My bad...the New Jerusalem. But I can get more scripture. :))

But still, is God not on his throne in Heaven now? Of course he is...and no where in scripture is God's throne, heaven or himself described as dark...nowhere is it described as a void.
Alexander's statement just does not bear witness with the spirit of God in me.

I am not sure that any of us will truly know what heaven looks like until we get there. His recollection of what he saw and more so what he felt, rang true, did not seem as if he were lying, and actually sounded quite beautiful and comforting.

Did we read the same article, or did I miss a big hunk of it somewhere? I gotta go pull it up again.

:laugh We actually did not. I had read it a few weeks ago (and not on Yahoo) and watched a couple of videos. I would not think though it would have been that different. :dunno

I will say that I am not one to discount peoples near death experiences. I can always believe one thing, yet none of us know for sure. If it sounds plausible, you know not a big disco party :)) , I give them the benefit of believing that is what they saw and experienced.

DeeWee, Here is the part I was speaking of that I liked. (and below a link to the Newsweek article I read...if you would like to read more.)

"My first memories from when I was deep inside: I had no language, all my earthly memories were gone," he said. "I had no body awareness at all. I was just a speck of awareness in kind of a dark, murky environment, in roots or vessels or something. And I seemed to be there for a very long time -- I would say years.

"I was rescued by this beautiful, spinning, white light that had a melody, an incredibly beautiful melody with it that opened up into a bright valley," he added, "an extremely verdant valley with blossoming flowers and a just incredible, rich, ultra-real world of indescribable complexity."

Alexander said there was a young woman who soared across time and space with him on a butterfly wing and gave him a message to take back from Heaven.

"She looked at me, and this was with no words, but the concepts came straight into mind: You are love; you are cherished; there's nothing you have to fear; there's nothing you can do wrong," he said.

God was there as a vast presence of love, Alexander said, and Alexander understood God through an orb of brilliant light.

"It was all of eternity and all of conscious existence," he said. "But it was this brilliant orb of light that was almost as necessary as a translator to bring in that message from the divine and the incredible."

After he recovered, Alexander, who was adopted, was shown a picture by his biological family of a sister he had never met or seen before. He recognized the sister as the young woman from Heaven.

"I looked up at that picture on my dresser that I had just got and I knew who my guardian angel was on the butterfly wing," he said. "It is the most profound experience I've ever had in this life."

That story has a lot more to it. The one I read basically gave the description of being in a dark void.

I still tend to be a sceptic about these things, but try not to judge since I am not the one that experienced it.

Thank you for posting the article you read! :)
