Paulding is quickly transforming into Riverdale

I've lived in my home for over 3 decades and so much has changed. Many of the communities are becoming Section 8 and with that comes the increase in crime. From burglaries to drive by shootings, it seems as if violence and crime are on the upswing. We NEVER even go out after dark nowadays and I always pack heat just to go pump gas. There's racial tension in the air, you can feel it. Heck, I feel like a fish out of water when I go to the Hiram Wal-Mart. We prefer to drive out to Rockmart or go to the one over on Dallas Hwy.

With that being said, we've been looking to get out, maybe above Summerville, Ellijay, Chatsworth or even further up into Western North Carolina. Property is sky high right now, but I'm afraid if I wat too much longer, I'll be stuck here for good.

I get it, crime can happen anywhere, but this county is quickly changing and before long, it will be just like DeKalb, Clayton and Henry counties. That's my wake-up call.

No doubt the county is changing. In my eyes for the worse. It will never be the county I moved to almost 40 years ago.
No place is ever the same after a few decades. My family left Augusta in September 1973. I returned in February of 2002. It wasn't the same. People were calling it "Disgusta." A lot of people left Augusta/Richmond County for Columbia County. When we left in 1973, there were only two high schools in Columbia County. Now there are five. I must admit, Columbia county is much nicer in every way from Augusta/Richmond County. Columbia County's population in 1970 was 22,237. Today it is 162,419. Most of the military personnel stationed at Ft. Eisenhower (Gordon) live in Columbia County because the crime is lower and the school district is superior to that of Richmond County.
