Opt-out

We normally get a butt load of junk in the mail. Three to five credit card offers a day (the record is eight in a single day) and insurance offers. That doesn't include the offers to refinance my VA loan. Keep in mind, I don't even have a VA loan. AARP loves me too.

I normally just destroy this stuff. For some reason, a few weeks ago, I opened one. There was a phone number to "opt-out". I called it and they will drop your address from mailings for five years. Sign a form, you're dropped for life. It is operated through the credit bureaus.

My volume of junk mail has already decreased by 70%. No credit offers in several days. I wish I had known all this before. The USPS is going to be mad at me.

I think it is probably because they are the ones that sell the information to begin with, but that's a guess.
