Nobody Knows What’s Making Ford’s Coyote Engines Tick

I'm not going to try to hear it on mine because then I know I won't be able to un-hear it. I've got enough gray hair already to not add "possible engine failure" to the list of things to worry about.

Not all do it, just some.

To be fair...valve train noise (which this likely is) has been too common on several engines from various brands. The HEMI had issues up until 2019, and like Ford, RAM never admitted there was a problem. GM has had a slew of lifter failures in some of their V-8s too.

I question why this has become an issue in recent years. Personally, I think the trend toward super thin oils and many oil manufacturers removing moly from oil are both factors.

I see more and more experts recommending doing the first oil change on new vehicles at 1000 miles. This is to get metal filings and manufacturing slag out of the motor sooner than later. This is the issue that's killing Tundra engines, but there's some indication it can also be a problem in other engines. And in the climate we live in, I believe in going up one "weight" in oil.

This Cera Tech product mentioned in the article is interesting. The reviews on it are excellent, I think I'm gonna try it.

I would make sure it doesn't void your warranty first, those folks can get real snippy when it comes to lubricants.

Not sure about RAM, but Motorcraft sells a very similar product.
I think the article mentions that Ford no longer sells it, hence the Cera Tech. Just sayin', cover your butt, it ain't worth voiding your warranty. Check out Shell Rotella, I've heard a lot of people saying that it still has a lot of additives including Zinc. I don't know what Zinc does, but they seem to think a lot of it. If Rotella meets the SAE quality standards for a Dodge and has all of the additives you want... why bother with the expense of Cera Tech?

It came up on Amazon when I searched for Ceratech

Since we're talkin' about trucks, I figured we could use some red blooded American made pickup porn.

If it is, it's a good one, as prototypes have appeared at car shows.
Several different versions of this "new" Caterpillar truck on the internet, apparently all fake. Some clearly based on Ford trucks, others on RAM platforms.

Also hoaxes claiming John Deere will be making a new truck. All these are AI or photoshoppe generated pictures.

Apparently, Cat did toy with the idea and make some concept trucks, but then announced they would not be bringing one to the market at this time.

I would think the pickup market is pretty saturated right now, especially with the EV offerings. Seems to be lots of inventory on the lots.
