Not all do it, just some.
To be fair...valve train noise (which this likely is) has been too common on several engines from various brands. The HEMI had issues up until 2019, and like Ford, RAM never admitted there was a problem. GM has had a slew of lifter failures in some of their V-8s too.
I question why this has become an issue in recent years. Personally, I think the trend toward super thin oils and many oil manufacturers removing moly from oil are both factors.
I see more and more experts recommending doing the first oil change on new vehicles at 1000 miles. This is to get metal filings and manufacturing slag out of the motor sooner than later. This is the issue that's killing Tundra engines, but there's some indication it can also be a problem in other engines. And in the climate we live in, I believe in going up one "weight" in oil.
This Cera Tech product mentioned in the article is interesting. The reviews on it are excellent, I think I'm gonna try it.
