Nasty thunderstorms

We've had a ton of rain this year; especially lately. My worry is all the trees we have.
I was surprised, we had a lot of thunder and lightning, some of it pretty close, we took a heavy power hit with one bolt, but not much winds. I guess we missed the center of the storms. Hopefully we will be as lucky today.

Lightning apparently hit our bedroom TV. It powers up but it will not recognize anything plugged into the HDMI port. We had a TV in the spare bedroom so we are using that now.

Just checked our whole house Surge protector after that hit yesterday. Still Green so I it didn't kill it.

Been well worth the $130 just for the peace of mind.

Lightning hit in my front yard about 15 minutes ago,,, just finished changing clothes. That bugger was loud, and the 4th time in the last 20 years that lightning has struck within 100 feet from me. Kinda glad I've got all of my affairs in order, as it sounds like the man upstairs is zeroing in on my grid coordinates!

We used to have a tree in the front yard that was like a lighting rod. It had been hit at least 3 times that I know about.

It was hit once while my wife was home, was very loud. It was close enough that the magnetic field from the bolt magnetized the mask on my daughter's tube TV. Blew out my ethernet switch, an amplifier I had for music in the shop, an ethernet port on one of the PCs and various other items. Total came to just *under* the home insurance deductible, so I had to eat the cost.

I know the surge protector will only handle stuff coming in on the power lines. We get hit directly, the house will be toast.

They tell me they can't smell with those respirators on anyway.
They may be telling you that to be polite. I remember one time driving through Gary, IN while driving to Ft. McCoy, WI. That city has a lot steel mills and the place smelled terrible. I stopped to get gas and something to drink. When finished, I opened my trunk, then a duffle bag and pulled out my protective mask (gas mask for you civilians). I put it on and cleared it, got in the car and started driving. I discovered the pro-mask does not filter out odors.
