Missing my grits

I will admit to being a snobbish about a few things. Beer, when I drink it. Chocolate. There are a few other odds and ends I'm sorta particular about.

And grits.

I have eaten grits that come from Logan Turnpike Mill for over 10 years. They are located up near Braselton. Little out of the way "house" that houses a small stone mill they use to grind them. I used to make a supply trip up there a time or two during the year, particularly when the leaves were changing. Or, just when I needed to get out and make a drive in the mountains. The last few years, I haven't been able to find the time, and now in Nashville the distance is a bit too much. So, I order about 8-10 pounds and they ship it to me. That and a gallon of wild flower honey, something else I'm snobbish about.

My grits haven't arrived. I ordered them nearly 2 weeks ago. Mrs. Mac is promising some killer pancakes. But I like to have my grits on the weekend.

So, what are you snobbish, or let's say particular about?

I would not touch grits with a 10 foot fork. BUT I love wildflower honey. It is the only one I buy.
I am particular about pretty much everything. But my friends do call me a liquor snob. I will only drink "good" vodka, rum, bourbon, scotch, wine....you get the picture. ;) I get migraines from the cheap stuff and I really do enjoy the taste of good liquor.

***Note I am not a drunk, I promise... :laugh

Lot of folks say that about grits, and not just them Northerners ... :whistle

I think the grits that most people are comparing, well they make a good pasty glue! The ones I eat are a much coarser texture, they are mushy, and with some garlic and butter make an excellent side dish!

I tend towards red wine myself. Not too picky about it. My sister, who has bartended part time on and off for many years, is the official martini maker when we have family get togethers. I never knew there were so many flavors!!!!

I will let that first sentence go, this time. :p
You could be right. I love polenta cakes, but just have not even seen grits worth dipping a spoon into! (They do look like glue and probably would not give me my spoon back!)
I like red wine, prefer white, and :love my martinis.

I like grits! Ummmm. But I'm a sugar and butter guy....

I went back up to Ohio for a visit several years ago and stopped to eat breakfast. They looked at me like a fool when I ordered grits :'(

They needed a killin' for that :Stick

Odd for a southern boy, but I've never been crazy about grits.

Me neither. I'll eat them occasionally, but I put butter and pepper on them.

My son was raised in Michigan and went to basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC. One morning at breakfast he got his tray of food and sat down at the table. He started putting sugar and milk in a bowl of what he thought was Cream of Wheat. This guy yells at him, "Hey what are you doing?" My son said, "What's it look like? I'm fixing up my Cream of Wheat." The guy says, "Boy, thems grits." My son said they tasted pretty good and he got some every morning and put milk and sugar in them. The other guy would always shake his head and say, "Leave it to a Yankee to ruin grits."

I LOVE GRITS! Well, not the instant or Waffle House ones. :)) And, NO, you don't put sugar in them. :))

And my "snob" items . . . sheets and Tequila. I want high thread count 100% cotton sheets and 1800 Tequila (in my margaritas) :))

I love grits too! Salt, pepper and butter here.

I'm a sheet snob, like Madea. I'm also a snob about fabric softener, candles, and mayo.

Sure I do. Thought I already told y'all that :p

Only yankee traitors eat grits with sugar. They ain't cream 'o wheat ya know. :))

True story.......

I was on a Hotel job in Manhattan for about 3 months maybe 20 years ago. We ate mostly at this little deli around the corner from the hotel where we were working, and got to know the ladies that worked there really well, as we were there at all hours. They forced us to eat tongue sandwiches one day and made fun of our accents, but as a present on our last morning in town they somehow found grits and made them for us. Those were simultaneously the worst and best grits I ever had. I still get a Christmas Card from the (Jewish) owner.

Just like everywhere else, most are, some aren't. The folks at the deli and in the Hotel were indeed good folks. I never really liked it there myself, just too many people, and I truly believe that the closeness of the next person to one's shoulder determines how short their fuse is. I heard the "F" word there more in a day than I hear it in a month here. They even had me doing it by the time I left. My wife threatened to wash my mouth out with soap.

Now if Mrs. LTD had her way, any big time lottery money coming our way would go to a condo on Central Park, but not me. I'm a nice cabin in the woods by a lake kind of guy.
