I am tired and leery of purchasing items made in china. We have heard reports of sub standard production in their country. Some of the products were dangerous. For the last couple of years I have pondered going one year and not purchasing anything made in china no matter what it is.

This year I have been able to purchase several things made in the USA. Unfortunately I can't remember what all they were.lol I do know that one was a clothes hamper from Bed Bath & Beyond. I was very happy about that.

I saw on the Today Show within the past week that you can go on Nordstroms and Macys websites and search "Made in America" and it will come up with their products that are made in the USA.

The Buy American Challenge, which is the plan I have been on for the last two years (I just had my second buy American birthday this week. Don’t I get a pin or something?). This is a realistic buy American program that anyone can follow. Best of all it doesn’t require the kind of severe deprivation that Josh is dealing with.

I’m hoping that as Josh continues on his journey, he will make peace with the fact that avoiding all imported goods is just not realistic. I’m hoping he will adopt these Buy American Challenge program guidelines as a realistic alternative.

Thanks, I will check that out. I am just trying to do this with new purchases. There are some things in my kitchen I may get rid of tho.
 
You are welcome. A couple of my friends were following the guy who was trying to do it all American and sent me the link. It is all pretty interesting.
 
It's not just China. I've noticed most of the clothing I purchase for my kids is made in Vietnam.
 
I had a list of constrution materials that are all made it the USA. I'll have to find out what husband did with it.
 
Buy American and you employ an AMERICAN!


This has been a new business idea pounding in my head for sometime. But lack of funding has greatly curtailed that plan. Any one have a few hundred K's they want to invest?
 
We try to buy American as much as possible. I never, ever buy food made in/grown in China, though.

I always look at where our food has been grown. I do my very best to only buy from local growers.
 
I buy based on value. If the product is of good quality at a fair price I'll buy it. I do prefer American made, but it isn't a deal breaker. I've gotten bad products and good ones from all over the world.

If I have a pet peeve, it's pencils. I know, a small thing, but I demand American pencils.

This is me.

Except for the pencil part. That is what erasers are for.
 
Well I know my Italian shoes can't be bought here. I gave up before I tried to do it! :))

I am particular about food and try to get local and organic. Anything I want that is foreign I do try to find small internet companies and order from them.
 
Unfortunately, this is not always a clear issue. The qualifications for "Made in America" can be quite lax.

EX: I got a shipment of air conditioners yesterday that had to be American made because it's a government job. The truck carrying them came right out of Mexico. I guess South America is America too...right?

Sometimes just final assembly in the US (AKA putting a sticker on and packaging it) qualifies for Made in USA.

:thumbsup You are right! That is even what happened with some dog food. It had USA on it, but in teeny tiny print it showed that it was bagged here, but the meat was from China. :rant
