LTD, how\'s your friend?

I haven't seen anything about your sick friend lately (unless I'm just a dork and I missed it, which is entirely possible). How's he doing?

The news is mixed. He is alive, but he is on a permanent vent (think Christopher Reeve). He has been transferred to Emory Midtown for occupational therapy and evaluation. It is unlikely he will live outside of a nursing environment ever again. It is also unlikely he will ever eat, as he has lost the ability to swallow also. I am currently preparing his home for sale to help pay the bills.

I am so sorry LTD.

I'm sorry LTD. Doesn't sound like a good situation but what is good is that he has such a good friend in you. Anything we can do to help?

Oh, LTD! I am so sorry to hear this. I really, really am. But, thank God he has such a wonderful friend. You truly are a great, wonderful friend.

Beautifully said, my dear. :sniff:

::ditto Praying for him and you.

I'm afraid our friend Ken is nearing the end of his journey. He was moved from the hospital to a nursing facility in Roswell yesterday. He was full of hope, wanting only to be able to eat again someday. Unfortunately, he quit breathing last night and was without oxygen for some period of time. He is currently in the ICU at North Fulton Hospital and is unresponsive except to inrtense pain, and shows signs of brain damage. We are waiting for the neurologist, but all are in agreement that he will not be brought back again, since his entire body is just so compromised.

His wife and children are people of faith and I m sure they would appreciate your thoughtful prayers and wishes. More later as we are off to the hospital.

Just got back, and it was about as I expected. He just isn't there anymore, but nobody has told his body that yet. The Docs say that he still has brain stem function, but the swelling has compromised his higher brain function. Nobody is going to remove support just yet, and the neurologist will reevaluate him tomorrow on the possibility that the swelling will have decreased and allowed some more function to return. It's really just a hail Mary. He looks absolutely horrible with his eyes rolled back and bloody spittle coming from his mouth. I hope that in his mind, if there is any glimmer left, he is eating catfish and cornbread and sipping on a cold Mountain Dew. Lord knows he deserves it.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I just told my BIL last night that saying goodbye to those we love is the hardest thing on this earth that we do. :(
