Loose nut holding the handle bars?

Years ago, when I was a child, I saw a man get killed on a motorcycle. That has truly left an impression on me and I've never had a desire to ride a motorbike. My two genius brothers love to ride. They ride all over the place, just to rub elbows with other bikers. I don't get the kicks out of riding to Sturgis or down to Daytona or over Myrtle Beach. Whatever

Skip ahead to this week. While riding his bike way out in Arkansas, a dog ran out in front of my older brother. The dog is dead, the bike is wrecked and my brother has spent 5 days in ICU with broken ribs, punctured lung and blah blah blah... He'll apparently be ok, which is a relief, but one can only wonder how long it'll be till he's back on another bike. Perhaps there really was a loose nut holding the handle bars.

Glad your brother is going to recover.

I rode a lot when I was younger. Have toyed with buying another bike, but wifey is not interested in it and i have too many other things to spend my limited funds on.

Whew, glad he's going to be OK. I rode dirt bikes a lot when I was young and occasionally on the road. Like you, I don't really get the lifestyle, but with several seemingly normal friends who do, I guess it's to each their own.

Glad to hear your brother is recovering and I completely understand your thoughts about bikes.

I rode while I was younger because, well, that’s just what kids do. Didn’t ride again until Jul ‘16 when the Queen and I got the wild idea to go get one so I ride often now. My riding buddies just returned from South Dakota but not from Sturgess, they make an annual mission trip ride to an Indian reservation in Allen. They keep wanting me to join them but it just doesn’t sound like an enjoyable ride. I’ve ridden Suches and Blood Mountain but not The Tail Of The Dragon yet. I’m planning to do it in the Spring.

full disclosure:

the last 'Hog' I rode was a yellow Honda QA 50

I was about 12 years old and I crashed it into my uncle's garage; it possessed waaaay too much power for me to handle.

That experience told me that motorcycles (of any size, color or breed) and I do not mix.

Bicycles are a different matter, I own five of them... and today when I talked about buying another one, The TrophyWife said: "That's fine... but if a new bike comes in, an old bike goes out." (difficult to argue that point.)

I'm happy your brother is on the road to recovery. Hopefully, he stays behind the wheel of a family sedan or a monster truck from now on.

I had a red one. I had a blast on that thing.

Glad he's gonna make it, and sorry about the ICU time.

One of our Pastors we used to have was a big Motorcycle rider. He hit a deer doing 50+ up in north ga, he slid and melted his nylon jacket into his skin. Messed up him and the bike, but not as bad as your brother. The deer didn't make it.

Had a good ol' boy stop and ask him if he was gonna keep the deer. :)

I wear a very thick leather jacket when I ride mine, as well as leather chaps.

I'm so glad your brother is going to recover. I had a dirt bike, once, and I barely rode it because it scared me to ride.

A little more than two years ago, my brother was riding his bike out in Arkansas. He wound up striking a stray dog, crashing his motorbike, (dog died), he was placed in ICU with broken ribs, a punctured lung, scrapes, cuts and bruises here and there and pretty much everywhere. After a few days in the hospital and a long recovery came the doctor bills out the wazoo and getting placed on various medications and so on and so forth. Skip ahead, after the accident, he was never the same. A once big, strong, husky man became frail, weak and downright feeble at times. When he talked, he wouldn't talk too loud because it would make his chest hurt, so he pretty much stayed quieter than usual. He began to drink heavily...apparently that was his way of dealing with his situation.

Skip ahead, his neighbor found him laying face down in the front yard and then called EMS. They helped him get in a chair on his front porch, but he died right there on the porch. The medical examiner's report said he had some gastro internal blah blah blah,,, basically internal bleeding that caused him to literally bleed out.

I'm truly shocked and saddened by his passing. I knew he had been having problems, but I had no idea things were as bad off as this.
He was only 57 years old.

I don't know how I missed the original info that he was injured.

That in itself was awful.

Losing him at such a relatively young age is a tragedy.

I am so sorry.

Prayers for you and all the family members.
