I just finished reading the entire Jack Reacher books in chronological order. Lee Child's has a new one coming out in September.
I like the Jack Reacher character; however, I can't help but think what the guy is going to do when he gets too old to head butt bad guys and kick their butts.
Child's does an a good job making his story lines and characters interesting, but he does get a little too wordy when describing some things. I usually end up scanning over those long descriptions. As a retired member of the US Army and having served 17 of those 25 years in the MP Corps, I wish he would do a little more research on the Army, Military Police, and the Army's Criminal Investigation Division before writing about them. In so many ways he was so far off the mark that I found it annoying.
I read movie rights were purchased on the entire series of books. I like that, but it sucks they have Tom Cruise playing Reacher. Reacher is 6'5" and 250 lbs. His size is a very important part of his character in the books. This leads me to believe the Hollywood script writers will be making some key changes to Reacher's character and I suspect the book fans will blast this movie.
Cruise has not been taking the criticism well and has come out and said he was approved by Child's to play Reacher. If that's true, then many of the books fans will believe Child's sold out and is only thinking of the money. Child's can do whatever he wants, it's his creation; but I think if box office sales for this movie aren't good, there most likely wouldn't be a second movie, especially with Cruise as Reacher.
A couple of guys I know here in Afghanistan have read some of the books. One suggested the Roc or Stone Cold Austin should have been picked for the Reacher role. I disagree with those choice as well. It should not only be someone who looks like the character, but can act as well.
I did like the book series and when the movie comes out, I'll see what the reviews are like before I decide to see it at the theater or wait until it comes out on DVD.
