Interesting - Big Boards

Rolling down the highway
There is a link on one of the message boards I occasionally visit (and I visit several). They claim to be one of the largest, the link didn't work for months, I pointed it out and now it appears to be working. When I clicked on the link it gives information on how it ranks those boards. I thought this was hysterical:

Do you take into account total posts ever posted or posts in database?

We generally take what is available on the board. This may vary depending on the forum software, the board admin, and other factors. We are aware that this makes the rankings themselves relatively inaccurate, however we do not feel it is the most important, since it is very easy for a webmaster to cheat the rankings anyway. We intend to display a categorized list of the most active forums on the web, not to have a 100% accurate ranking.

NG, over at a forum that I moderate, we've had folks post results from them.

They are pretty laughable. But, like many examples, folks believe it because it's on the 'net.

When you are trying to sell advertising based on unconfirmed information, I think that is a bit deceiving. Kind of like false advertising?? But oh well, it's not my board or worry. I just can't imagine doing business that way.

But that's what that "other" board has done for many years. ;)

I almost fell for his trap a few times. Twice I was about to make the plunge and the "Dear Leader" would do his usual crap. Saved me a lot of money!
