In the Middle of Nowhere

I flew 2 hrs today on a Chinook to an outpost where I'll be for about a week to give training to Marine special forces personnel. The living here is very primitive; even more so than any the other places I've been. It's pretty in a strange way. I brought both my cameras, so I'll take lots of pics and post some when I return. I don't start conducting the training until Friday, so I have nothing but time on my hands here. At least I have access to the internet.

Yes, but no dinasaours. I can see Bedrock from the tower. I didn't see Fred or Barney though.

At this little outpost, they have internet set up. I don't have a cell phone signal here at all.

When the sun goes down here; it's dark as heck. You can't see your hand a couple of inches from your face. I kid you not. You need a flashlight to walk around outside.

It got very windy and then rained last night. The cloud coverage is bad this morning, which will undoubtedly cancel my flight. Most likely, I'll be stuck here another day or two.

I'm stuck here another day. It was beautiful out yesterday, but no choppers were scheduled in. It's raining today, so even if one was scheduled, it's canceled now. I'm begining to think this is Hotel California. As long as I can get out of here before the 28th, I'll be happy. I have to be back no later than the 28th to prepare for my leave.

Well, it's a beautiful day here in the middle of nowhere, albeit cold; however, no flights are scheduled in for today. Still stuck here. The chopper pilots do not like to fly here because the weather can change from good to bad very suddenly. Another guy I work with was supposed to come up here instead of me, but because we don't have our weapons authorization issue resolved yet, he didn't want to come up here without a weapon. In other words, he's a friggin coward. It's nothing to send someone up here and they be stuck here for a month because the difficulty of getting flights in here. I myself, would never send someone who is three weeks away from going on leave here because of the difficulty getting flights in and out of here.

All I know is if I don't get out of here so I can start leave on time, I'm going to be highly ticked off and at one person in particular. In fact, I'll see to it he has to go to another site and if he refuses to go, I'll have him fired. There's no sense having someone if they're too scared to go out to the teams. Our area of operations is the largest and contains the most teams. That's why we have two people here. I was doing all the traveling myself before he arrived. If I'm going t have to continue to do so, then the company just needs to send his sorry butt home.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to vent.

I feel for you, dude. I'll be prayin' you get a ride out in time. I hate crap like that...esp. when other people muck up your plans.

This guy thinks he's all that and a bag of chips, but when it comes down to it, he's a coward. I've been to several of these remote sites unarmed. Heck, I've walked with team members through the villages while unarmed. If someone starts shooting, a team member will toss me a weapon with no problem. They always have extra. I told this dude that. I wonder what excuse he will have once we receive our weapons?
