I\'m begiing to really dislike the retail world

Mrs. Mac works for a major retail chain. She is in upper management for personnel.

I won't go into details, but she has been working some very long hours the last few weeks - think 12 at a minimum. She went in for about 4 hours yesterday morning, and will put in at least 8 today. She is "off" both days. Just got off the phone with her, and she says she may have to go back in very late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

She also asked me if I would mind coming in for a few hours to simply pack boxes some time this weekend.

Don't get me wrong. She earns a good living, and really enjoys her work and the company. And yes, I realize it is the biggest time of the year for retail. I just hate this time of year because of the demands it puts on her, and how much it keeps us apart.

Whining over ... :BH

It is tough in retail, the hours are terrible. Similar in my business; my on-call tech had a freezer go down last night.

I was in management for retail last year and it does suck this time of year. I was made the night and weekend manager against my will so it made me choose between it and my family... My family won!

I took a BIIIIIG pay cut to do the job I do now and I actually LOVE it! some times the pay cut is worth it to get your time back .

Well, she put in 8+ hours yesterday. Got home just in time to clean up so we could all go out to see the Rockettes. Great show!

This morning we were up at 4, again, so she could get out of here and head to work about 5. Her sister and family left around 7ish, they didn't get much of a chance to see her this trip. I'm busy doing laundry for 3 spare bedrooms and cleaning up the bathrooms. And fighting with a leaking dishwasher, so far it's winning (which means a trip to Home Depot).

And she tells me she may need me to come in and do some work for them tomorrow - meaning she will probably end up going in again on Sunday.

She really likes her job, it pays well and she does have some nice people she works with. 10-11 months out of the year it ain't bad. Just right now - it isn't fun. Will back down a bit after Cyber Monday, then pick back up a bit right before Christmas.

Uggh. She went in before 5 yesterday, home about 7 last night. She left this morning at 3:30, I'm guessing she won't be home before 7 tonight.

I think after Cyber-Monday it's supposed to settle down for her. I sure hope so, this lack of sleep is worse than when you have a baby!!!

Mac I feel for you. My husband is not in retail, it is almost worse, UPS. LOL He is a manager overseeing dispatching all the routes to make sure everything gets delivered that is purchased. He is leaving the house at 1am and returning at about 5/6PM. Peak season for them starts October 15 and runs until the New Year.
My sleep patterns are never good and almost non existent when you go to bed at midnight and hubby is getting up and making so much noise I wind up wide awake! I try not to complain, UPS has great insurance, retirement, stocks, 401K, and yearly bonuses that many do not have anymore. We are very lucky that he has such a good job.

Thanks Diva. Her company is also a great one to work for, except for right now. Well, that and the heavy duty traveling she was doing before. I'm thinking things are moving in the right direction.

I'll admit I'm not used to it. The last few years she had to put in a little extra time around the holidays. This year, magnitudes worse.

And, as I guessed, she'll be getting home about 7 tonight. She sounded tired when she called leaving work. We'll probably be in bed shortly after 8 tonight.
