Huge Explosion just south of Cedartown last night

Blazing Saddles

Pursuit Driver
Around midnight, reports came in of a huge explosion in an outbuilding at a residence just south of Cedartown. For the life of me, I just can't figure out what this could possibly be. What could you be doing that late at night in an outbuilding in that part of the county? Can someone please tell me what kind of activity can be done in a small building behind a house in rural Polk county? Anyone have any ideas? Please, please help me.

This is another tragic event in my hometown community. I realize that an investigation will take place, and it's too early to state a cause of the explosion. (Edited until an investigation is complete.)

Here is the link for the Fox 5 story. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Explosion-Kills-2-people-in-Polk-County-pm-pk-20110822

The pictures here are unbelievable.

One news report I read this morning said that the two people inside (still unidentified, but a 33 year old and an 18 year old male) could be heard screaming just prior to the explosion. Cries were heard as the fire took over, but when firefighters arrived, nothing could be done to save the men.

The debris field was over 100 feet wide. Live power lines were downed. Over 200 firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

:(

ETA: The men's names have now been released. No chemicals have been found to explain this type of explosion. The two men were said to be moving furniture.

The State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate. I saw the Police Chief on the news who said that there was no indication whatsoever of a meth lab, but chemical tests will have to be done on the debris.

Did you see the pictures? There was NOTHING left! I don't think I've ever seen anything like it!

Wonder if they could have ruptured a gas line? Maybe they stored gas and it ignited. :huh

They said there were no gas lines near the building. I guess there could have been containers of gas there.

One of the news reports this morning said that someone in the home heard them yelling just before the explosion. Something definitely happened that they knew had placed them in danger. It's just so very sad.

My heart is breaking, that picture shows total devastation of that building. Can't imagine what could have exploded if there was no gas or propane. Even gasoline shouldn't have exploded like that. :(

The Police Chief said there was one small container of gasoline, but it was not the cause.
