From the article I linked, "The city has also blamed the rise in homelessness on big tech companies that have moved to the area, including Twitter, Salesforce, NVIDIA and Eventbrite. They say the businesses have brought high-paying jobs with them, which has caused housing prices to soar and pushed people who can't afford to keep up financially out of the area or onto the streets."
The city wants to blame big tech companies for its own failure in dealing with homelessness. There is no doubt the city's economic development plan included bringing companies like these into the city. It had to in order for the city council to approve the zoning requests and site plans these companies submitted. They looked at only the tax dollars these companies would be paying to the city and the higher incomes the city could tax. San Francisco residents pay a 1.5% city income tax on their earnings. The city council failed to have the foresight to see these companies would be providing higher incomes that would drive property values up, making it more expensive for mortgages and rent. Think supply and demand here.
The liberals WANTED those businesses because they WANTED the tax revenues they would provide. From the article, "According to a 2018 report from HUD, a family of four living in San Francisco making $117,422 a year qualifies as "low income." For singles, a salary of $82,000 or less puts them in the bracket. In comparison, "low income" for a family of four in New York is $83,450 per year." Those are low income because the cost of housing has increased because of those much higher salaries. The members of the city council clearly suffers from cranial rectumitis because they haven't a clue how to fix this problem and it will only get worse. What they will start seeing is many of these businesses leaving for other parts of the country, while their homelessness problem continues to rise turning the city into a third world country. When the people and the businesses start to leave, they will blame the businesses once again because liberals absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their stupidity.
