hey, waski - we need an update...

I'm semi-moved. I'm in the old house right now (won't get internet until Tuesday).

The former owner left it FILTHY! I am doing a ton of cleaning and putting stuff away. I will never feel guilty about my housekeeping ever again. My worst is worlds beyond that.

Of course, I feel like a hoarder when I see all the stuff I had to move.

I don't know when I'll be back. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not until Tuesday. Lots to do!

Well enjoy the new place and making it your own and we'll see you when we see you. :)

I'm so excited for you!!! Even with all that cleaning. At least you'll be able to sleep happy knowing you've cleaned it all. Keep us posted on your progress.

hahahahaa Yeah, typing on a Kindle isn't fun. Oh, btw - we will need pics of whatever you wish to share (house or just the town or whatever). I'm so happy for you!

I have internet and phone now. I'm still unpacking so I don't want to share the horror that is my home.

It's definitely smaller than my rental. It's only 672 square feet and a little over 400 square feet in the basement. There will be no empty rooms in this place like there were in my rental!

The previous owner left the place FILTHY. There was dog hair all over, general crusted filth, and a basement full of the previous owner's junk. I'm going to get a dumpster and unload into that. (Seriously!)

The house is unfinished. I need to finish putting the floor into the bedroom and along one edge of my living room. I also need to put up all the trim all over the house. There is no trim right now. This last is a good thing: I can do it my way!

Anyway, I'm off to unpack. I'll post photos soon, once I cease to look like a hoarder.

Hey now, don't be trying to get someone else addicted to that site!

;)

Probably the biggest thing I need to do is throw stuff away! I love books, but maybe it's time for a few to go. Same with some of the other stuff. I really need to winnow the collection down to what I really and truly use. I'm also looking at a corner of the living room (and a part of the bedroom) and thinking "built-in, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves." It's my house. I can!

Once I get rid of the previous owner's clutter, I'll also be able to make proper use of my basement. I think that will solve a lot of problems. Some of this is stuff that I would only use seasonally.

On pinterest they have a book shelf door! I am a huge collector of hardbacks myself and have an entire office of books. I can't bring myself to part with them.
I love the idea of floor to ceiling bookshelves!

I am in love with that door! My bedroom actually has 2 doors into it. I don't know if I would go as far as to make a door-shelf, but the idea of replacing the door with a bookshelf is pretty awesome. Then I could have a bookshelf in the bedroom and in the living room. You've given me an incredible idea! It would also solve one of the flooring issues that the previous owner left for me to solve.

Thank-you so much for the inspiration!

Oh! I hate getting rid of books! I had to get rid of so many when we moved up here from GA....and again when we moved from Moorhead to Detroit Lakes. My husband was about to collapse form all the moving boxes full of books. :)) I miss my books now....I could tell you every single one that got left behind/donated.... :'( Mine were mostly children's books that I used to read to the kids....and a bunch of homeschool books. I have promised myself that slowly I will resupply.

Shhhhhhhhhh! Don't tell my husband. :whistle :laugh

Pinterest has some great book storage ideas! :))

I will start a proper thread with updated photographs once I get everything put away. I'll also include pictures of the outside...but I got to thinking that it might be fun later to look back at how much cleaning and work I did, so I took some pictures of the main floor. I didn't photograph the basement. Remember: I'm still moving in and putting stuff away. I also seriously need to get rid of some books and various other stuff.

Here is the real "Hell", my living room:

Here is a partial view of the bedroom, the room where I have made the most progress. Sadly, with the "open" closet, it will never look truly finished.

Here is the kitchen. It is basically done, but it does have a lot of stuff in it that is on the way out.

Here is the bathroom. It really is done, but there just isn't much to do in a bathroom in the first place.
