Hello!!!

MrsB

Pursuit Driver
Hello, Hwy Folks!

We have a new forum, dedicated to books and book lovers. I love, love to read and I'm usually thinking about the book on my night stand all.day.long. (I am only able to read at night because of kiddo!) When I read a really, really good book I almost always want to talk to someone about it! Thus, this forum!

This forum isn't a regular "book club", where we all agree to read the same book, then discuss. This is for whatever book you read and want to post about; see if anyone else has read it, too. Of course we could do a sort of book club, I guess.

So, welcome!

:yeah

I love books!!!!

I finished that Peter Fonda book, thank goodness and then read Moe Howard's autobiography, I Stooged to Conquer: The Autobiography of the Leader of the Three Stooge.
One of the things about Moe's book that stood out to me was the love he had for his wife and family.
One wife, married when they were young and stayed happily married till the both passed away, a few months apart.
I am now reading a book about Custer's Last Stand and The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde.
Yes, I often have two (or three) books going at the same time.

Good idea, nice addition to the Hwy.

As for reading, I do like to read but I have a hard time finding books which hold my interest. Unlike Stradial, who recently posted that once he gets a book he will read it from cover to cover no matter what, I'm just the opposite. I'll give it 5, maybe 10 pages max, if it doesn't reach out and grab me by then I can't stay with it. The last book I read cover to cover was GC's first book which was given to me for my birthday in late June. It grabbed my attention and I read it in about 3 nights (now I'm waiting for the 2nd release).

Books are a huge sickness of mine. Right now I'm reading The Baklava Club by Jason Goodwin. I never would have expected myself to read a book about a eunuch in 19th century Istanbul. But, the first in the series sucked me in, and this is the fourth, and probably final book in the series.

I have way too many books, though I'm trying to reduce the collection, and, in a used book store, I can plunk down ridiculous amounts of money. Luckily for me, the owner of the used book store in Mandan managed to **** me off big time and I'll never set foot in there again. It has helped me save money. (That is a topic for another, non-book board.)

I'm a fairly voracious reader.. it's quite possible I've read about 300 books in the past year alone, both fiction and non-fiction. My two problems I have when reading is I tend to read at night and forsake sleeping which leads to.. not remembering much of what I read when doing so. Regardless I do enjoy reading mainly Sci-Fi in regards to fiction, and non-fiction is all over the place but have really enjoyed true survival stories and of expeditions long past, arctic ones I have found most interesting.

I'm reading this now. It has really hard words in it though.

Yay! I read nearly every genre. I do not like romance. Blech.

I usually stick to literary fiction, but love everything. I never thought I'd enjoy fantasy, but I am a "fan girl" when it comes to "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (aka Game of Thrones).

I also recently read the Wayward Pines series, which is science fiction, another genre I never pay close attention to.

This sounds a LOT like me. And I just looked that series up - I think I'll try it out!

This is me except for the sci-fi part. I am BAD about staying up to read and being tired the next day.

Tell the truth MrsB, my rant on Peter Fonda's book prompted this forum, didn't it.
(Just say yes, even if it isn't the truth)

Wow, you are about the closest to me of anyone I know. I read a lot. It would average out to about a book a day, but I do not read like that. I will get into a series and read the whole series in an evening. :)) I did that fairly recently with the Divergent series.

I like thrillers, mystery, crime, comedy, some chick lit (no ugly cry ones!), sci-fi, NO ROMANCE, blech, and I am not big into autobiographies or true crime (I turn on the news for that and I really do not need real details).

I prefer real books to hold rather than reading them on my tablet. (as is known with the 1,000 + at last count hard back books in my office that my husband complains needs to go :girlsaysno )

Tonight I reread Gone Girl in anticipation of my book clubs dinner and a movie upcoming date. :cheer1 (so excited, the ending of that book really had my gf's riled up during our discussion :drunkdiva )

This forum is a GREAT idea, although I'll probably stay away because of jealousy! :taunt

Reading is my favorite thing, but with our busy lives, I find it hard to steal away enough time to read. I love historical fiction and mystery/crime drama for the most part. I, too, hate "romance" novels, but I have a couple of friends who are authors, so I have to read them every now and then to stay in their good graces. Haha.

This is a good idea, because it will help me know where to find my next good book!

This is a fabulous idea!! My next book is Ann Voskamp's "One Thousand Gifts." I like to read just about anything that will hold my attention. One of my biggest pet peeves is to start reading a book (even one I just I don't like) and not being able to finish it. And, I can't start reading a new book until I finish the one I am currently reading. And, I am definitely more likely to read in my spare time than watch TV (but y'all know that).

My book choices generally start from the iBook freebies. Some of the authors will do a series of books and will offer the first one free so I will have to buy the remaining books in the series so I can see how it ends.

I wouldn't be happy reading two different stories at the same time.

I LOVE true crime, mystery, drama, etc. No romance for me either. :)) I'm not a sci-fi person at all.

I downloaded a ton of stuff for Kindle, but haven't finished any with that. I really haven't enjoyed reading that way.

:cheer1
I'm so excited!!

Stradial, maybe, just maybe. :Ninja

But I am so happy about the responses! I'm going to post about a book I recently read (again!) that really is.... Just really a wonderful book.

I am so glad to know I am not the only dork out there!!! :))

I still LOVE :love real books, but I have gotten used to me Kindel.

I'd considered that book. Let me know how you like it. :)
