Hate crime??

First, there is no such thing as a hate crime.
It is total made up BS.
In fact, every time I hear the words, "hate crime", my stomach turns.

I saw where two numbskulls put two Confederate battle flags on the lawn at Ebenezer Baptist Church, which is MLK's old church.
Now they are talking about charging these two rocket scientists with a "hate crime".
What the.....heck?

A hate crime?
Hell, other than perhaps littering, I can't see where any crime was even committed.
They laid two flags on the yard.
No one was intimidated, at least the shouldn't have been, nor was anything damaged and no one was harmed.

I said the day the passed this so called "hate crime" law, today for the first time in US history, we have made what we think someone was thinking a crime.

Hate crime.......just another compartment that flooded in this sinking ship.

I really do not get how (NOT THIS INSTANCE, just in general) that some of you deny specific crimes geared only towards specific groups are not hate crimes. (Though I do still agree all crimes are hate filled) When a specific group is targeted and the only reason you are harmed or killed is because you are part of that group is not the same as you specifically wanting to kill me. Hmmmm, I am pretty sure I have typed that exact same line before. :)) You are not assuming what someone is thinking, btw....it does have to be proven that it was intentional. I have not heard of a conviction on the psychic ability of the local police.

Seriously though, could those that deny hate crimes (which I really wish a different name would have been designated for this) exist and are made up, just be a group that has not been part of targeting? IDK, just a thought, because I do not see how others do not see certain groups were targeted and it became almost a game to the point something had to be done. Can you imagine just walking in the mall and being grabbed and beaten because you are black, look gay, are Jewish, etc.... :(

From the little you gave about the crime today...I would not think it would actually stand the test of a hate crime, but you know it does sound good in the news that they are tough on litterbugs. ;D

Hate crime laws are stupid. They are simply a way to punish people for their thoughts in order to try to make a group of people feel good. Stupid.

There is no such thing as a "hate" crime.
There is simply a crime.
Murder is murder, hate, love or indifference makes no difference.
Battery is battery, hate, love or indifference makes no difference.
Theft is theft, hate, love or indifference makes no difference.

The government came up with the idea of "hate crime".

Governments also approved these.
(I know, I know, but I liked the poster)

I do understand what you are stating. Crime is crime. I get that, but on the opposite side of that do you see that there was an influx of crime on certain groups and that was how this law came into play? I do not think it is the total answer, but it was made as a deterrent to those going after specific people just because of what they look like, who they sleep with, what religion they practice. I think the problem some have with this is the name of it and that is why I do not like that it is called a hate crime, because most think crime is hate, and they are not wrong in that, but I can see this is a just one of those topics that if someone can't see something I can't make them see it. :)) It is not like I this is the only topic or subject I am on the opposite side or thought than others. :laugh :drunkdiva

It's just another "Feel Good"law. It's on the books so certain groups feel better about themselves and others shameful. The Birmingham bombing where the little girls died back during the real racial turmoil, now that was a hate crime. Let's not confuse the two.

What group was made to feel "shameful"? :dunno I have no clue what you mean because that law covers many groups and I do not know how that law could be made to make groups feel shameful. (Hate crimes can be committed by anyone of any race, color, religion, etc)

Yes, that crime with little girls was a hate crime, as have been others that targeted specific people ONLY because of color, race, religion, or sexual orientation. I am unsure if you are agreeing there are "hate" crimes or not. (I am not confused by the hate crime law, but I am confused by your statement. ;D )

I think "hate crime" laws originated with the boy who was gay who was dragged and beaten for being gay.

And that was definitely a hate crime. I was referring to flags being linked to hate crimes. Any flag, even an ISIS flag.

There is just a crime.

I wouldn't call it a hate crime but it certainly wasn't an act of love.

I agree with Diva concerning hate crimes.

That's OK.
You, Diva and others are wrong.
But that's OK, I don't hate y'all for it. :)

This is one of those topics where we amicable agree to disagree.
(and agree that I am right)

@stradial

I am liking you right now, so I will go with that. (If you were on FB and my friend you would know why. ;) )

Dragging a black man behind a truck until nothing much was left of him? Is that hate crime or it the example more of pure evil in man? Those men "HATED" blacks. 'Evil crime', is a better term.

I am only going to tell you people one more time, there is no such thing as a "hate crime", there is just the crime.

Now if you don't stop saying there is hate crime, I will be forced to hate you and commit a crime.

In all seriousness, there is no such thing as a "hate" crime.
To try and put the term "hate" in front of whatever crime was committed is saying that some people are special and their lives, property and bodies are worth more than others.
Since we are all equal, there can be no "hate" crime.
