Gov. DeSantis signs bill requiring teaching of history of communism in Florida schools

Florida school kids as young as kindergarten will soon be learning about the history of communism.

Maybe it will include a field trip to S Florida to speak directly with Cuban expatriates.

I remember when I was in FL schools in the 60's and 70's, communism was a required subject. I forget the name of the actual book we were given, but I do remember the cover being RED with black lettering. That course along with civics fell to the wayside sadly.

In civics class in high school in Augusta, we learned about communism. The emphasis was on comparing communism to our democratic republic: "We can vote for whoever we want to. Russians must vote and vote for who the government tells them to." There were also quality-of-life comparisons. Did you know most Russian cars had wooden seats covered with cheap fabric and little padding? Mercedes were imported for the political elite to drive. Long before the end of the year, it was hard to believe anyone would want to live in a communist country.
