Fox News: Rising Threats - Shrinking Military

One thing to look at is how much are we currently spending on defense for contractor work that could actually be done by our military. There are a lot of civilian positions in the military that were once occupied by military personnel. When we go to war, we depend even more heavily on contractors driving defense spending higher. Here's an example: during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army hired defense contract companies to provide cooks in those countries who were paid nearly six-figure incomes.

When I went to basic training, trainees had to rotate for KP (clean up after meals). Today, civilians do that. Why not reduce spending by having trainees return to KP?
