Floor help!

We have hardwood in the living room. It's not laminate or whatever it's called. MrB said its Brazilian hardwood. IDK. It's wide and a deep brown. Anyway, I don't know what to clean it with. It's already in need of a mopping due to movers and Charlie. What do you suggest?

If it is like mine you are supposed to use something like Bona or Bruce floor cleaner for hardwood. The true experts here are I'm Floored and Blazing Saddles.

PM Blazing Saddles or I'm Floored, but we just use Swiffer wood floor cleaner after a good vacuuming.

I'll do that. When I say deep, I mean a deep brown, lol. I'm so clueless in this house.

Murphy's Oil Soap is often used for things like that. But I would still ask BS or his lovely bride since they are the pros in the field.

I know water is bad for wood. Also, a lot of how you clean will depend on how the floor is sealed, not the type of wood.

Since I don't know specific products (and I have a laminate floor), I went online:

Hardwood Floors 101

Blazing Saddles put my floor down and said not to use water to mop it. Maybe he or I'm floored can can help us. Where are you guys?????? :huh

Thank you all!!! Thanks IF! Getting ready to check the links out. There's a couple of things in the house I'm not sure of, like the floors and counters. I need to find out how they are sealed but I can't find it in the paperwork. Luckily, or strangely maybe, the previous homeowner is coming to stay next door with her daughter so she can finish the school year here. It may be awkward, lol. I'm going to ask her how about some of these things. I just can't wait that long for the floor.

Also, any of you wanna come show me how to work my new washer and dryer? It makes all kinda of sounds and lights up. I'm kinda scared of them. LOL

I found this link on Pinterest.... I am gonna try it on my floors. http://naturesnurtureblog.com/2012/04/19/homemade-floor-all-purpose-cleaner/

To those of you who say not to use water... if it's liquid, then it contains water. I am really not trying to be a PITA but that just makes no sense.

Not so. There are many liguids that are not water based. Pertroleum, for example. Gylcerin, mineral or vegitable oils, alcohols, erc.

okie dokie then

Sorry, my inner nerd comes out now and then.

Thanks all of you! I'd planned to clean my floor this afternoon, but the carpet cleaner for the other house was 4 hours late. FOUR HOURS. I just didn't get a chance to check out the links yet. I've spent the last hour sorting laundry and figuring out the washer. It sings to me. LOL

I think what they mean is that we should not use the old mop and bucket method to clean most hardwood today. It puts too much water on the floor.

10-4, NJ. I was agreeing with Cheezy in my head.

Cheezy, I am totally into the homemade products thing! I have heard vinegar and water for hardwood floors (although I of course defer to IF and BS). I'm about to make my own laundry detergent, I already use vinegar as a fabric softener, and I just found a recipe for shampoo/conditioner. Mei Lan the Flower Child. :D
