This is nothing new, we had two female teachers when I was in school that messed around with gobs of male students. They would have parties at their house (they lived together) and invite several of the male students out every week for...ummmm...well, you know.

No, I didn't participate. I liked girls big time, but messing with teachers was creepy.

As these men's teacher, her behaviour is reprehensible (and somehow made worse, at least at an emotional level, by the fact that her husband is serving overseas while all of this was going on). However, all the students (as I understand it) were over 18. I know that sexual relations between a teacher and student is illegal in Texas (according to the article, at least, so I suppose that is true), but that's a difficult law, imo, since in general terms consensual sex between adults is not illegal. Certainly there can be an imbalance of power in the teacher–student relationship, but so can there be in an employer–employee relationship. Is sex in that situation illegal? Not unless there is coercion — which comes under different legislation, I imagine.

Having said all of that, it's not an easy matter, I admit. Would I feel differently if it were a male teacher and female students?

I'm certain though that she shouldn't be teaching. What view her husband takes of it all is, of course, entirely up to him.
