Don\'t leave your purse in plain site in your car.

A friend who is like a daughter to me was at Sweetwater state park around lunch time today and she left her purse in the back floor board of her car. Her car was locked. She saw a car pull up next to hers but didn't think anything about it cause they looked like they were parking. When she got back to her car, the window had been busted out and her purse was gone. They immediately used her credit card on Fulton Industrial to purchase 45.00 worth of gas. Luckily her debit card was in her pocket. Cops were already in the park on the other side for another car that had been broken into.

I hate criminals! :rant :rant

Hard lesson learned. I hate that. I NEVER leave anything in sight in my car that I don't want to lose. :sigh:

Yep I have told her that NUMEROUS times cause she never takes her purse with her inside anywheres..she always leaves it in her car. She was so upset I didn't think I should lecture her but she knows she should have put it in her trunk. Now she has a broken window on her new car and her bank account frozen and credit card frozen.

What concerns me is her drivers license still has my address as her home address..I sure hope those idiots don't try to come to my house! makes me nervous

Hate it for your friend but guess lesson learned. I hate theives!!!!!! As the economy worsens this will continue more, esp with the Holiday season approaching. Maybe we could have our hwy law enforcement Admin post a topic of being aware and what you should be doing not to entice theives while out and about shopping

Maybe she needs to get a cross body purse or wristlet. She really does not need to leave it in the car at all, not even the trunk. She does not know who is watching as she puts it in. I understand not wanting to have to carry a purse around at times, that is why my two suggestions were invented. :D
I don't think that many people get their wallets/purses stolen and have the thieves come to the house, do they? (police men...question) Though if she had keys still to the house I would probably think about getting the locks changed.

She didn't have a house key anymore but I think I'm gonna change the locks anyways (needs to be done cause the locks are old) but I have heard of thieves being greedy and trying to break into a home of someones wallet they stole. The Douglas county police officer told her to notify me since the address was different than where she lived.

I am so, so sorry that happened to her. I have had it happen to me in the past also and know the feeling. I DO put my purse in the trunk if I do not take it in. I HATE thieves too. :rant

Oh and ShoeDiva, she had a Vera Bradley cross body purse...she left it in the car :rant

Buy her a small wallet that she can put in her front pocket - I have a little one that I put my drivers license, credit card and cash in.

well her wallet was in her purse but luckily she had her debit card in her back pocket from buying lunch. The bank has canceled her credit card and since her check book was in the purse they have frozen her account. I think she will learn her lesson from this and not leave her purse in her car anymore.

If anyone suspicious approaches your house, call the cops immediately. The same goes for anyone circling the neighborhood or stopped along the street within sight of your house. The fact that they think they may have your house key is enough to make you a potential target.
