DeSantis 2024.....now 2028?

If you recall, I said a month ago, under no circumstances, I will not vote for Trump. I don't hate the guy. I just don't trust him, and he brings way too much baggage.
At least there are plenty of Democrats that feel similarly about (The Moth) Biden. They would never vote Trump, but they'll stay in their flea-bitten, entitled, socialist, woke homes before they vote for that has-never-been puppet currently in office.

As for me, I actually thought DeSantis would have received much more support. But I will absolutely vote Trump if he gets the nomination. In my opinion, there is no way on earth he could or would be worse for this country than that stammering fool who is there now.

Me too! Though I thought all along that his timing was probably wrong, I thought he would at least give Trump a challenge. For the most part, his poll numbers have dropped since he entered the race.

I respect your opinion, I said the same about Haley but after thinking on it I changed my position. I just remember you being one of the most vocal about Trumpers staying home because he wasn't on the ballot. If you want to vote for a Dem or for an Independent that's your choice, just remember that's one vote taken away from Republicans.

I say again...I will vote for whichever candidate has a statistical shot of beating Biden or probably anyone else the Dems run.

Any of the GOP candidates are preferable to what we have now. And there is no reasonable chance of a 3rd party candidate winning at this time.

I had already figured that out.

It is what it is, not worth even getting into.

We'll all have to wait and see what shakes out in this election. Still a long way to go and I expect some surprises.

The end of your last sentence got cut off. I think it included something about Tulsi being involved somehow.

:D

I thought this was a good (and fair) article worth the read, it sounds very similar to what has been said here on the Hwy:

There’s a lot of talk about Ron DeSantis’s poor showing in the Iowa caucus. It’s destroyed his future. He’s not ready for primetime. The race exposed a dour and robotic personality. He’s just too unlikeable to be president.

I’m skeptical. For one thing, I suspect in a few months no one is going to care about the 2024 GOP primary results. In a few years, no one will even remember them.

(Skip down the article to this paragraph)

All that said, if Trump weren’t running, it’s likely DeSantis would be leading the GOP field right now. Most primary voters have no real substantive problems with DeSantis. It’s doubtful that even his antagonists would have problems with his personality or how he comports himself if he hadn’t committed the grievous sin of challenging their hero. As soon as DeSantis endorses Trump, all will be well. Trump values nothing more than loyalty to him, sprinkled with a little subservience

I partially agree, which is why I think he should have waited until next time. No one can out trump, Trump. Like him or not, he controls the narrative and keeps the news focused on him. That also causes some of his negatives, but that's another discussion.

But I also think he's made a lot of campaign mistakes and his message doesn't go over well to some. He was rushed into this, and he probably didn't have the time to as careful as he should have been about assembling his team and practicing his message.

I'm being sincere when I say I hope he survives this and comes back for another round. We need leaders like him.

I just read a NYT article, it was amazingly well-written to have come from them. I'm not sharing it because reading it from any other source would require logging in, which y'all probably don't want to do (I don't either).

The article made a case that DeSantis is building an off ramp to take him out of this race and set him up for 2024. It cited several remarks and statements he's made since Iowa. I think this is wise for him, he needs to live to fight another day.

I'm also going to predict here and now that DeSantis will endorse Trump within 30 days. Maybe sooner.

That would be a wise move for him and very good for our country. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like the guy and he'll make a great POTUS when it's his time. I wish him the best.

He definitely would be a much better POTUS than Trump.

I will vote for the republican when they knock off Biden and bring in Newsom... I don't really care who the republican is.

We can't have the filth and lies of Newsom in our Federal Government as Potus. You see what Nancy has done in her decades long career... The USA can't survive a Newsom, and all the evil bad people who are behind the communism he represents.

DeSantis Pulls Out of Sunday Shows Ahead of N.H. Primary

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' campaign has canceled his scheduled Sunday appearances on CNN's "State of the Union" and NBC News' "Meet the Press," the networks announced Saturday evening.

"Unfortunately, tomorrow's scheduled interview on @CNNSOTU w/ @RonDeSantis was canceled by the campaign. We look forward to having the Governor join us on the show in the near future," CNN posted on X Saturday.

Likewise, "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker posted on X Saturday that DeSantis pulled out of his Sunday appearance with her "due to what a person familiar" with the campaign said was a "last-minute schedule change."

Rumor is he will suspend his campaign next week. I was hoping he would stay in a little longer or at least until after Haley suspends.

Yep, I expect he will suspend very soon. He knows.

Haley will be the last challenger standing and she'll probably give Trump a run in a state or two. Then she's toast too.

I listed to a podcast earlier today which featured him saying what he would do differently if he could. It was like he knew. Whatever happens I hope he goes out in a manner which keeps him in good graces so he can be a solid contender next cycle.
