Community Service Project

Rolling down the highway
So we are definitely a community oriented message board, I'd like to see us do a community service project. We have a couple of favorite groups that are already part of this board. What do you say we do a fund drive, silent auction, etc., something to support our community.

What groups are part of this board? (I probably know and just have not have enough of my coffee yet. LOL)

My family does lots of volunteering so I am pretty sure we are in.

Paulding Pregnancy Services is on one of the child boards and Veterans are, too. Then there is Lighthouse Pantry and Shepherd's Rest.

Go get some coffee...........I've been up since 5:00. Good to see some others stirring. I think Fox went to sleep. :)

LOL. I guess I really did not know some of those.

I have had two cups of coffee, but I am thinking with 3 hours sleep in needs to be two pots!

I haven't had my coffee yet so I can't think of the member name here that goes with it. They serve Paulding ... are located on business 6, basically across the street from Ingles (behind the Save-a-lot, in front of where Freds used to be).

Everyone seems to be in the giving mood around the holidays, but the need is year 'round. I'm going to suggest our Scouting for Food donations go to Lighthouse.

That's awesome! I plan to give more to them this year. I coupon and gave alot of my stockpile to them at Christmas.

I didn't go to sleep. I was skyping with my grandchildren. They are growing so much.

Hey, this is Charlie on my wifes computer. To let those who do not know who we are I am the pastor of Mountain of Faith Fellowship Church, my wife and myself are the directors of Lighthouse Food Pantry. We are located off of Bussiness 6 at 294 W/I Pkwy in Dallas across from Ingles.

We have been operating the food pantry for almost 5 years, we do fund raisers to raise the money to purchase food, yard sales, bar b q's, have had singings and revivals(The Crusade to Stomp Out Hunger) we have received a few grants and donations but the majority of our funds we raise.

I do not have the exact numbers for the year but will have by the end of the week but my last figure , and I am going off memory, wasabout 3,500 families assissted, 8,500 people fed, 180,000 pounds of food distributed and 3,000 hot meals served in the past twelve months. These are not exact but I will post the exact numbers as soon as I calculate them.

In addition we have partnered with the Atlanta Food Bank and hosted a mobile food pantry in October and gave out 10,000 pounds of food to 208 families in a 2 hour period. We will be doing this again Jan 26, Feb 23, Mar 22 and April 26. The times will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm, there are no qualifications, it is open to everyone all you have to do is pull up write you name, address and the county you live in and we will load the food in your car. There is only one stipulation and that is only two families per car.

My wife and I have a heart and a call to this ministry as we have been there, I lost my business, home, vehicles, when the economy fell, it was two weeks before Christmas, we had four little boys and she was 6 months pregnant and my house sold on the court house steps. With that said, we have a desire to help the hurting and feed the hungry.

I hope this tells who we are and if we can help anyone please give us a call 678-363-7470

And remember gang ... they don't just need/want food. They also give out personal hygiene items, laundry detergent, all kinds of things. Even some small luxury items (body spray, make up, cologne, etc.). They have a "pick 3" (or is it 4??) room where the people they help can go in and pick however many items it is. Imagine how uplifting something as simple as a bubble bath or new razor blades can be for someone in such a challenging time in their life.

Which reminds me ... I have a buttload of hotel/travel size/sampler items that I need to clear out of my linen closet.

Ooh, thanks for the good info, UM. I love the idea of helping Lighthouse, Paulding Prego, and/or Shepherd's Rest.

I've had a few dealings with Charlie and his Angel (Lighthouse), and I can say with confidence that their passion is for helping people.

My church helps support Paulding Pregnancy; they also do great work.

I haven't had any experience with the other, but I suspect they do good work as well.

I had a bunch of body wash, shampoo, etc that I had stockpilled from couponing. I did make gift bags and gave some to my family, but I put together a box of these items for them at Christmas time. My goal is to give them something every month.

These are awesome people and love people and the Lord and do have a calling to help people.

Alright, I have just finished totaling the numbers for 2011

We assisted 3,342 families
Fed 7,893 people
gave out 155,761 pounds of food
and
prepared 5,159 hot meals

As I totaled the numbers there was a constant increase month by month. This does not tell the numbers of personal hygiene items, household goods and clothes we gave away.

Thanks to everyone that has supported us with donations, promotion and most of prayer

May God Bless you all
Charlie
