I am a girly girl at heart. I love to be pretty and I love fashion. The best "shift" I ever made shopping wise was when I quit watching trends as a whole and started dressing for ME. By that, I mean I pay attention to what works for my body type.
YES YES YES!!! I am a HUGE believer in this!!! I don't wear colors that are the fad; I wear colors that look good on ME. I don't wear styles that are the fad; I wear styles that look good on ME. Classic never goes out of style, btw.
You look back at some of the pics of Jackie O when they were in the WH, and I swear, it could be somebody today.
If interested in a man's point of view, I completely agree with this.
A lot of what is new and fashionable is plain hideous. There are a few variation here and there that are pretty, and new color trends can be interesting. But by and large, the basics of fashion is timeless.
As for summer fare, I love to see a woman in pretty dresses and skirts. A great fitting pair of jeans always looks good in appropriate settings.
But what you wear must work for your body type. Obviously, slimmer women have it easier here. It may not be fair, but it is what it is. If you're heavy, and I'm not criticizing you if you are, there are things you should stay away from. Pouring yourself into a pair of low-rise pants and wearing a skin tight shirt that shows your muffin tops is not attractive. Someone please tell the teenage girls this. But heavier women can still dress in a very attractive manner by wearing clothes that fit and make the most of your body type. When my daughter lived at home, her and mom used to watch "What Not To Wear" and they did a good job showing heavier women and women with body shape issue how to dress. Some of the transformations were pretty amazing.
I don't like the redneck chick thing. Rolled up shirt sleeves, camo, Dixie Outfitters shirts, etc. is not pretty.
Generally speaking, I like longer hair. Though some women can pull off the short hair look. And I prefer a fuller hairstyle as opposed to the ironed flat Brittney Spears craze.
A lot of it is just about making an attempt to look nice. Some people, men and women, don't try; and it shows. Almost anyone can be attractive if they dress nicely and take care of themselves.
