Clothes For Regular Women

The interwebz. I just go from place to place till I find something I like. Amazon has a crapload of selection now, including a new site called (I think) Myhabit.com.

Is myhabit.com where nuns buy their clothes? :laugh

Dork? I can't believe you called me a dork! Now my feelings are hurt.

You women think you have it bad when it comes to finding clothes. It's worse for us guys. Everywhere I go to find new clothes, they're selling what high school and college guys want.

I won't wear most of what's out there. Men's clothes are made for the obesity problem we have; they are cut large and designed to cover up. I hate the baggy britches and shirts with the huge sleeves that come to the elbow.

I've been finding some lines at Kohl's called "athletic fit" that I really like. They are more accurately sized and the sleeves are shorter and have elastic bands. The pants are flat front and a more slender cut.

A few years ago I could have filled out Jeff's costumes.

Fox - :poke2 I figure if I already hurt your wittle bitty feelings........

:laugh

GD- My son has to get the athletic fit in shirts too. Good grief even a medium (which is too short in length of shirt and arms) swallows him. You are definitely right on how they are cutting things!

I give up.

Went on another wasted shopping trip yesterday and found nothing.

I must have tried on over 100 outfits the past 2 weeks and still nada.

I have decided to buy myself some new Nike's and a couple pair
of Levis, and give up on my dream of a fashionable wardrobe...

I think I will spend the money on a salon makeover instead.

I'm so sorry. :( I HATE trying on clothes and not finding anything I like. Truly, try the interwebz. You can return anything you don't like/doesn't fit.

Are you going by yourself? I know that when I shop by myself and I have something particular in mind I never find it, try on a million things, and get frustrated. Have fun with shopping. Take a friend. Plan on lunch, coffee, or a drink and have her help you shop. ( The Avenues is a great venue to do this) Another set of eyes is the best.

I have finally accepted the fact that I am not fashionable and never will be,
it would probably take the intervention of a professional stylist at this point.

I have been dressing this way (jeans, tshirts, sneakers) since high school,
and really thought I was ready for a dramatic change, but I have come to
the conclusion that dressy clothes just ain't my thing...

Maybe this whole thing is just a mini middle age crisis... :)) :'( :))

I am a girly girl at heart. I love to be pretty and I love fashion. The best "shift" I ever made shopping wise was when I quit watching trends as a whole and started dressing for ME. By that, I mean I pay attention to what works for my body type.

YES YES YES!!! I am a HUGE believer in this!!! I don't wear colors that are the fad; I wear colors that look good on ME. I don't wear styles that are the fad; I wear styles that look good on ME. Classic never goes out of style, btw. ;) You look back at some of the pics of Jackie O when they were in the WH, and I swear, it could be somebody today.

If interested in a man's point of view, I completely agree with this.

A lot of what is new and fashionable is plain hideous. There are a few variation here and there that are pretty, and new color trends can be interesting. But by and large, the basics of fashion is timeless.

As for summer fare, I love to see a woman in pretty dresses and skirts. A great fitting pair of jeans always looks good in appropriate settings.

But what you wear must work for your body type. Obviously, slimmer women have it easier here. It may not be fair, but it is what it is. If you're heavy, and I'm not criticizing you if you are, there are things you should stay away from. Pouring yourself into a pair of low-rise pants and wearing a skin tight shirt that shows your muffin tops is not attractive. Someone please tell the teenage girls this. But heavier women can still dress in a very attractive manner by wearing clothes that fit and make the most of your body type. When my daughter lived at home, her and mom used to watch "What Not To Wear" and they did a good job showing heavier women and women with body shape issue how to dress. Some of the transformations were pretty amazing.

I don't like the redneck chick thing. Rolled up shirt sleeves, camo, Dixie Outfitters shirts, etc. is not pretty.

Generally speaking, I like longer hair. Though some women can pull off the short hair look. And I prefer a fuller hairstyle as opposed to the ironed flat Brittney Spears craze.

A lot of it is just about making an attempt to look nice. Some people, men and women, don't try; and it shows. Almost anyone can be attractive if they dress nicely and take care of themselves.

Jerk. :Stick :Stick :Stick

Honeybunny - don't give up! :( The right thing for you is out there. I am sure there are a few here willing to help you out if you need a set of eyes. (I know you don't know me, and GD would say I am not fashionable with my capris...IGNORE HIM, but I would help if you like. I am a pretty good shopper) You are your worst critic and since you have been dressing like that most of your life, probably a little unsure of what does look good on you.

That is the best way to do it. I know when I was looking for my dress for DD wedding I had to have one of my friends go with me.

You want the friend that will be totally honest with you.

So true!!! The dress was lovely, and the shoes were perfect!!!

Thank you for all the suggestions and offers of help,
I have decided to go with the makeover idea instead.

I made some appointments for a cute pixie cut & color,
manicure and pedicure, and a sexy new pair of glasses.

Maybe even a couple of new tattoos,
I am gonna rock this family reunion... 8)

I was going to suggest that you go shopping with Shoe Diva and I spend the afternoon with a beautiful little girl. :D
