Charter School Ruling Due This Week

In Florida a Judge ruled against money from the Public School System being used for Charter Schools. They had not opened any there. In Georgia it is a far different story. Will the Supreme Court's ruling leave the students in question on the curb? :huh

At issue is whether the General Assembly overstepped its bounds by creating the Georgia Charter Schools Commission in 2008. The commission can approve charter applications that have been rejected by local school districts and divert state funding to the schools it approves

They need to approve vouchers so parents can decide where to send their children for a quality education.

I was watching the news this week about Ivy Prep, the all girl's public charter school in Norcross that held their lottery this week. Nearly every child was supposedly underprivileged, and they had far more applications than openings. It is pure propaganda that charter schools benefit the rich, and that they take money from the other public schools. The money follows the child exactly as it would if the child moved. It sickens me to see children used as pawns in a political tug of war to keep failing schools afloat.

I saw bits about that school too and couldn't help but wonder how a public all boys school would go over. How long would it last before the first lawsuit?

I was at the Pro Choice rally at the capital a couple of months ago and I can tell you who showed up for that. It was raining and cold and still they came! There were so many schools there with minority children that I could not count them all. They were NOT privileged! It is simply not true. I have pictures of those who were there that day asking that the children be given a choice and a chance. It made no difference. They are losing the battle.

Re: Charter School Ruling Due This Week (UPDATE)

The Court in an unusual move has delayed the decision in this case. :huh

In a rare move, the Georgia Supreme Court decided Wednesday to delay handing down an opinion over who has the power to fund and open public charter schools.
