Butter in the fridge or left out on the counter??

I have always put my butter in the fridge. My BIL moved in with us a couple of months ago and said that he always kept the butter on the counter. So now that is where it is. My husband agreed with him and said that he used to always leave it out.

What do you do? I don't like slicing into meltedish butter. Yuck!

I have a friend that leaves hers out. I will not eat anything that involves that left out butter. Just me, but the idea of contamination scares me. I refrigerate mine. (I don't eat those butter pats on the tables at restaurants either.LOL)

I've been buying the soft butter with canola oil. I love the taste of butter but don't think a diary product should be left out. So we use the soft butter at the table and refrigerated butter for everything else.

This is stick butter they are leaving out. I use the fake stuff in the tub that is left in the fridge.

Nope it's all stays in the fridge but Land O Lakes makes the one with canola oil that is soft when you take it out of the fridge. :)

^^ I buy that.

Here's the solution. You use the butter in the refrigerator and they can use the butter they leave out on the counter.

Foxmister, thanks for solving this for me. LOL I do only use the butter stuff in the fridge. They can have the nasty melted butter. I think they are the only ones who do this. Crazy!!!

I've done both. I see the pros and cons in both. I certainly appreciate the soft butter when spreading on things but I hate using it in measured cooking/baking.

Ditto. I HATE trying to spread hard butter on a piece of bread.

A glance at the interwebz doesn't show many warnings about bacteria, etc., but some folks did say the butter left out would be more likely to go rancid and have a bad flavor before it would make somebody sick. I've never heard of anybody getting sick from it, either.

While everyone is certainly entitled to set their toilet paper as they please, the technically correct is up and over.

Over AND the end has to be folded into a point. :)
