I drive my car once every other month or so...sometimes once every 3 months. About 2 years ago I replaced the battery due to it sitting for a long period of time. I believed it had a dead cell and the new battery seemed to fix it. I would hook up a small trickle charger to it every once in a while, but lately it will not start unless I jump it off.
This week I bought a battery tender in hopes it would work better. It showed a full charge today, but again, it wouldn't start unless I jumped it off. Here's my question for the Hwy Mechanic...
1. If it IS the starter, wouldn't it NOT start even if I jumped it off? It seems that either the starter is bad or it isn't, or am I wrong.
2. Since it sits for a long period of time between drives, do you think there is a dead cell in this 2 year old battery?
Last week I jumped it off and drove several miles and made 2 stops. No problem...I then made a final stop and it wouldn't re-start. It sounds like the starter to me, but I've been wrong before.
