All In One Computers

shed

Lead me to the beach!!!
I'm in the market for a new desktop computer. Anyone have the all in one computers? Or the touchscreen computers? Likes? Dislikes?

I build my own from parts so I get exactly what I want, but I'm not in that business any more. If you are lookig for something with a warranty, Dell and Acer are my choices for brand names.

I've always been a build it myself computer geek. I still look at ads for memory sticks, new CPU's, beefy power supplies, etc. - and get a gleam in my eye.

If you are looking for a basic computer, the all in ones are not bad. If you aren't comfortable cracking open a computer to replace a power supply, video card, add memory, etc. - then I think you would be fine with one. They can actually be a bit more expensive than the type with separate monitor and computer case, but there are some serious good deals going on. Also, have you thought about a laptop?

If I can suggest, do some online shopping. Then call and see if they can meet or beat the deal online. I know that situation happens a lot at a particular company - :whistle

Thanks for the input. This is for my wife. She does work from home some working as a financial analyst for her company. She uses a laptop at her office with a docking station. We've talked about having a similar setup at the house. She likes the option of a bigger monitor with less clutter. Right now we're leaning towards Dell or HP. Possibly could find some great deals tomorrow on CyberMonday.

HP had announced that they were shutting down their PC division and then they changed their minds about 3 weeks ago. But I'm not a fan of HP to begin with as I use to work on a bunch of them when I had my computer business. All the big named companies are proprietary hardware but Dell was always the easiest to work on. You can completely disassemble a Dell and never use a screwdriver! A hammer sometimes! ;)

:HAHA I like Dell. I've got a Dell laptop that is fantastic. We're going to check tomorrow to see if there are any deals that blow the house down.

Dell has been the best of the desktops for some time.

Going back to my first post...my concern about the all-in-one machines is the proprietary parts. If anything in there fails, you're pretty much gonna be stuck with going back to the manufacturer for replacements. Many of the standard desktops use integrated mother boards; but at least you can add cards, replace drives with aftermarket stuff, etc.
