A conversation with my Son

My Son and Family visited here last weekend. He is active duty US Coast Guard. While he was here, he wanted to check out the armory. He saw our AR15 tactical rifle. He asked, Why do you have that? I said, That is for when the Government agents come goose stepping up the driveway to seize our property or us, for that matter. I continued, that is just our first one, there will be other ones later. He said, Come on Dad, that is never going to happen. Y'all are just being paranoid. Are we?

I keep telling myself that in a true SHTF scenario, we'll be ok. The kids and I will go to our property and hunt, fish, grow, trade for, whatever we need. Then I wonder what happens if/when the government decides, for whatever reason, that they need our land more than we do. I have no quick, easy answer for that.

Do I really think that it would happen? No. Is there any chance at all that it could happen? Yes.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean somebody's not really out to get you. ;) In my heart, I want desperately to believe that never would or could happen here. But with each passing day, that hope grows ever so slightly dimmer. We have two guns, but need more (as you say). Which will be well and good for a general societal crisis where we need to repel marauding bands of looters, thugs, etc. But in unionmom's scenario...I just don't know.

I'm sure the people of Austria and Poland didn't really believe the Nazis were coming. I'm sure the people of Zimbabwe didn't really believe the government would take everything they'd owned for generations. But they did. Better safe than sorry, I believe.

God save the republic.

My Son wanted to know where our body armor was (he was being sarcastic). The thought never crossed my mind. Now I'm having to resist the urge to find some.
