You are what you think

Blazing Saddles

Pursuit Driver
I am a firm believer that what we think or call ourselves is in direct correlation of how we act. There are many examples of people living their lives according to what they believe about themselves. One of the biggest groups that fall for this misnomer are teenage girls. They will say "I'm fat" or "I'm ugly" or "I'm a failure" etc. This is sad because they can't live according to what they really are.

I believe there is a large portion of Christians who do the same thing. Growing up in a Baptist Church, I have heard Christians refer to themselves as "sinners". They will describe themselves as "just a sinner saved by grace". I don't understand the meaning of this because NOWHERE in the Bible does God refer to you as that. AND, if God doesn't even hint around that His children are "sinners saved by grace" then why in the world would you? I had a nice little list going on of the names God has for His children but I found one on line that saves me oodles of time. Take some time and look at what God really thinks of you:

http://www.kenboa.org/downloads/pdf/IdentityAffirmations2.pdf

After reading these truths, why refer to yourself as something God doesn't see any longer? Why cheapen the very act of salvation that God gives us? Where is there room in the body that holds God's Holy Spirit to be called sinner? You are a NEW CREATURE that declares the OLD (sinner) is gone!!! You are not a "sinner saved by grace" (not biblical) but instead YOU ARE A SAINT!!! Understand what God has for you and embrace the true meaning of Child of God.

I would never be so bold to say that I am a saint. I am a forgiven child of God who is still dealing with sin one day (or moment) at a time. So, while my Heavenly Father may see me as a saint, I see me as His humble servant that he has gracefully saved....

I will continue to use the term sinner, He may see me as a saint, but while I am proud to serve Him, I'm not boastful enough to give myself that label.

Just my opinion...

I will proudly proclaim that I am a saint! It's not myself that I boast of, but of His grace that made it true!

Jesus' blood spilled for me was enough....nothing I do or don't do changes His power. For me to continue to label myself as a sinner says that my sin is more powerful than His blood shed for me.

The Bible tells us that in Him, we are new creations. The old is gone, the new has come. If Christ's death and resurrection doesn't change us, what was the purpose? There's no way to live the life abundant without freedom from sin.

Jesus died to OVERCOME and DEFEAT sin. In my opinion, if we don't recognize that, and identify with it, it was all in vain.

To me the best part is that it is ALL Him. He chased after me and rescued me. He came knocking on the door of my heart. He passionately pursued me. And, oh, how I love Him for it!

Hebrews 4:16

New King James Version (NKJV)

16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Lisa, with all do respect, I'm sorry any Christian would deny what God has for them and not accept His identity for His children. But what upsets me more is your idea that it is boastful to accept His promises. And if that isn't enough, you accept a lie for your identity in Him. I just can't wrap my head around that. You are a beautiful NEW creation in Him that is wonderfully made and is considered a saint and perfect in His eyes. It is ok to believe that because the very One you have entrusted eternity has said so. There is no room for a wrong description of a soul saved by the Lord. Only Satan wants to remind those of their past and only God wants to restore and make new. That alone is enough to rejoice in and that alone is enough to accept His words. If your little princess came to you and described herself any other way than you would describe her, wouldn't you do everything to show her she was wrong? If she kept believing the lie, it would hinder your relationship with her. Lisa, your Father in heaven wants the same for you. He wants you to live in the promises He has for you because He knows what is best for you. Please understand I'm not attacking you but I hate to see believers think less of themselves than what God does. You can be proud in the Lord and don't think anything different. <3

I know all that my Heavenly Father has done for me and I know that He has proclaimed me a saint and a princess as a child of the king. I'm proud of that fact, but I prefer to remain His humble servant. I can "boastfully" tell of His glory, His forgiveness, and His love without boasting that I am a saint. Don't pity me because I prefer to give Him all the glory and don't worry about me thinking less of myself - I'm good.

As you all know, I am a simple guy.
Simple ideas work best for me.
I get confused waaaay to easy on spiritual things.

I look at God as the father, that means that I am his son.
I am able to use my relationship with my parents and my relationship with my son to help my with my relationship with god.

My parents loved me no matter what I did and do wrong.
I love my son, no matter what he did or does wrong.
My parents never think or thought of me as a "sinner" and I never thought or think of my son as a "sinner".

I know that my parents thought and may think, that I commit "sins" at times.
But they have or will forgive me of those.
I do not think of my son as committing "sins", I think of him as doing wrong (I do not think in terms of "sin", that is just me).
I have or will forgive my son for his wrongs, just as my parents have or will forgive me.

I think that god works the same way.

I could be wrong however, as I have no special knowledge of how god works, except what he has done in my life and in the lives of those I personally know.

For those who need scripture to confirm what the Lord likes.

New Living Translation (©2007)

Jeremiah 9:24

But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken!

This verse speaks to you and I differently, I think (and neither is necessarily wrong, just different). This tells me that I am to be boastful in The Lord, not in the fact that WE are saints.

Thankfully I am a Christian ... Cause if I weren't most these religious post would turn me off and not want to be one

But that is just my opinion

Please understand this too that boasting doesn't mean bragging or the teasing of others of what you have. It's just declaring what God has done. We've also got two different topics going on here. Boasting in the Lord and who we are in Him. I don't want to get off on that tangent. (Partly my fault). As for the saint issue, Paul describes us that way when addressing the believers in Rome:

New American Standard Bible (©1995)

Romans 1:7 - to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Been reading the comments, not quite sure the direction some folks seem to be taking?

Me, I don't think too much about myself. I do have thoughts/goals for the person I would like to be. I do also think that I don't always measure up to those goals, but I don't dwell on those sorts of thoughts. I do know that I sin, I know that humanity is prone to sin.

I also know that God loves us, and that we can strive to be as close to the ways of Him and Jesus as we can.

see...you can stay... what a good light you are with this post

I will end my comments by saying this: understand who we are IN Christ is not for the purpose to brag to others but to declare what He had done. It is too make us separate in Him and to show what He is. If God is telling us something, He obviously has something planned like a blessing. Denying His words for us only means we miss out. I'll pray for this.

With love,
BS
