We’ve got a $100,000,000 bond referendum amd 5 year SPLOST on the ballot Tuesday that I hadn’t realized was there.

Shall $100,000,000 in maximum aggregate principal amount of Paulding County School District General Obligation Bonds (the "Bonds") be issued for the purposes of providing funds for (i) the acquisition, construction and equipping of facilities and equipment throughout the School District, including new school facility construction, strategic additions, improvements, renovations, and/or modifications to existing schools, safety & security enhancements, technology, athletic and physical education facilities, and fine arts initiatives (the "Projects"); (ii) paying capitalized interest on the Bonds; and (iii) paying the costs of issuing the Bonds; and shall a special one percent sales and use tax for educational purposes be continued in Paulding County for a period of time not to exceed 20 calendar quarters and for the raising of not more than $197,500,000 for the purpose of (i) paying the principal and interest (during the period the one percent sales and use tax is to be imposed) on Paulding County School District's outstanding Taxable General Obligation Refunding Bond, Series 2022 in a maximum amount of $39,733,052, and (ii) providing funds to finance the Projects directly or through the payment of a portion of the principal of and interest on the Bonds?

We’re sorta new to Paulding so not sure where to land in this one. We came from Cobb so it was almost given that theirs would pass.

The question is, is this an added SPLOST, or a replacement of an old one that is due to expire. They had the old SPLOST that was suppose to enhance education, and they used it to build a theater for the dramatic arts department, built a practice gym to be used by the volley ball teams and put astroturf on the football fields at all of the high schools... meanwhile students were still attending classes in trailers parked around the schools campus.
The school board will continue to build expensive things, the difference is where they get the money. SPLOST is the least painful on property taxes, but it taxes the seniors that have already been granted specific tax relief from school taxes. I will be voting no,,, not that it will do any good!!

SPLOST 2023-2029

SPLOST VI

Pennies working in Paulding!

Thank you Paulding County for supporting SPLOST VI. Since the late 1980's Paulding County Citizens have voted to support and consecutively renew a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program (SPLOST). SPLOST VI renewed by voters (60.85%) on November 15, 2023.

This is from the counties web page. Apparently we have already passed the SPLOST as of 11/15/23. Really? Did I miss the time machine? Hell no I don't support a SPLOST managed by an incompetent good ole boy county government. To answer the question I believe it is for a renewal not an additional 1%. The county already taxes the hell out of me for a school system that I don't even use. VOTE NO.

They have kept this under the radar for the normal tax payer. Nobody I’ve talked to has any idea it’s on the ballot. Thing is this is a $100 million dollar bond that the county taxpayers will have to cover if the SPLOST doesn’t cover it. That’s a lot of money. We are still paying for the last $100 million bond.

This is the kind of CRAP that assures us all that you can never trust the crooks running Paulding County. They have already made up their minds and spent half of the money !! The state Attorney General needs to investigate these people for embezzlement.

Well, went and did my NO vote.

Re-reading it, it seems clear this is not so much a eSPLOST vote as it is a $100,000,000 bond referendum. Nowhere on the ballot do they say the SPLOST will pay *off* the new bonds, only to pay *on* the new bonds (maybe) and the old bonds, but not pay them off completely, as they were 20 year bonds)

This is a repeat of 15 years ago when they did the $120,000,000 bond money grab that they went through faster than Michael Moore eating a bag of Oreos with about as much accountability.

As soon as they need all the SPLOST money, they will drop all those bond back on the property taxes and there will be some really surprised home owners around here.

Some of my friends say give them the SPLOST or they will take it anyway. While that might be true, I don't buy into such surrender.

The more we give them, the more they will spend. It's like giving more drugs to an addict.

No

There's plenty of corruption for both parties.
One thing to consider is that before the rapid growth in Paulding, the overwhelming majority of the voters were Democrats. If you recall, Sheriff Harris was a Democrat until the growth. He ran as a Republican in his last term to get re-elected. Not once that I can recall did he ever appear at a Paulding County Republican meeting. How many of the members of the BoC are life-long Paulding residents?

From what I can tell, it looks like the 1% esplost passed by a large margin... that just stinks.
Yeah, 60.85%, just like they said last week !! Can you trust any information they toss at us ??
I didn't get up there to vote because I was chasing pain meds for my wife and helping my daughter with sick kids, but I wish I could have.

Local elections historically have low turnout. The people pushing local agendas know it full well.

That, and too many people are convinced it's a lessor of evils to give them what they want instead of fighting.

People pretty much suck these days. The talk is all about Artificial Intelligence, but I'm more worried about Natural Stupidity.

Even though we lived in Cobb for 23 years we would spend a lot of time in Paulding. We would intentionally try NOT to make purchases in Paulding if we could get the same product or service in Cobb just to save the 1 penny in sales tax. It boggles my mind that Paulding has a higher sales tax. That being said, we much prefer now living in Paulding but still make purchases in Cobb whenever convenient.
