I think it's inevitable that Monkeypox will begin to spread outside the gay community, the question is how much. This is exactly why our government should be acting now to isolate it and stop it. But they won't because they don't want to be seen as homophobic.

No, it's not airborne, but what I read indicates it can be spread by contact to open sores, or even to objects that have recently been in contact with open sores.

Again, I suspect that type of spread will be far less than what has been transmitting it so far, but there will likely be some.

I had to get the small pox vaccine again before going to Afghanistan in 2004. They told us the vaccine we received as kids were only good for 26 years, explaining we had no immunity to small pox after that time.

I wouldn't completely depend on that.

Smallpox vaccination provides full immunity for 3 to 5 years and decreasing immunity thereafter. If a person is vaccinated again later, immunity lasts even longer. Historically, the vaccine has been effective in preventing smallpox infection in 95% of those vaccinated. In addition, the vaccine was proven to prevent or substantially lessen infection when given within a few days of exposure. It is important to note, however, that at the time when the smallpox vaccine was used to eradicate the disease, testing was not as advanced or precise as it is today, so there may still be things to learn about the vaccine and its effectiveness and length of protection.
