TV update

I made a post asking q's about hdtv's here sometime near the end of last year and I was looking forward to watching the rose bowl parade in hd. Well that did not happen. Lol Mr W finally pulled the trigger about three weeks ago and purchased a Samsung 40".

We have been very happy with it. Next we will get some sort of sound system for it. We bought the tv at costco because they give an extra year warranty past the original from the manufacturer.

If I remember correctly guard dad recommended this brand and perhaps someone else did too. Thanks for all the input that was given!

Our old 60" rear projection monstrosity has been working OK for the past 5-6 years. I know TVs have no where near the life span they used to but I have to hold out til something better starts happening in the business.

Please TV, last just a little longer. :pray

I recall your other thread, but not the specifics.

Do you want a full blown surround sound, or something simpler like a sound bar?

I don't think she's a big drinker :)

Yes you gave me some nice recommendations! I still have them altho we will probably not hit the high end like Your Majesty of Sound ;) :snick_bunny

Congratulations on your purchase! Our 60" rear projection died (did I mention ON Christmas Eve). We have a 40" Sharp that we purchased a few months ago. We are happy with it, but we definitely need a sound bar. The sound is really lacking on this thing.

The speakers on flat panel TV's stink! There's thinness of the units just don't allow for speakers of the size needed to produce any decent sound. Much like laptops, to give you a comparison.

I'm an audiophile, so I prefer the multiple speaker set-up with at least 5:1. And, I want the speakers to be of sufficient size to reproduce the sound with high accuracy.

However, a lot of people understandably don't want to go to that kind of time and trouble, or the expense of high end speakers. Soundbars offer a much simpler alternative and the better ones sound quite good. Be sure to get a soundbar with a subwoofer.

Whichever way you go, just be aware that there is some real garbage out there, especially on the lower end of the price range.
