Trump administration rolls back contraceptive mandate

The same employer that will pay for viagra?
There's something not right about covering male erectile dysfunction pills but not covering birth control. Just stop and think about it for a few minutes.

Most health insurance policies do not cover infertility diagnosis and treatment...

Exactly, so why cover a drug that corrects and issue for procreation/pleasure?

If you're going to cover viagra, then cover birth control and other "procreation" medications/treatments as well or don't cover any of them.

Lots of women use birth control for medical conditions. Not just for preventing pregnancy.
This is very true. My oldest takes birth control because of cysts and such just like my wife used to get. Birth control keeps these cysts away.

Correct, but somebody needs to let the dad know it's being prescribed to the daughter for cysts BEFORE THE DAD FINDS THEM. Talk about an awkward moment when I looked at our middle one and said, "Yeah, right. Tell me again why you're taking these."

Clearly, this issue isn't as simple as we wish it was.

True that many women, especially young women, take BCPs for medical conditions. Now personally, I have mixed feelings about this because oral contraceptives can also cause a lot of problems in some women. Long story....but BCP's caused terrible depression in "She who adores me" years ago and almost broke up our marriage. Then the doctor put her on anti-depressants, which helped the depression but caused a whole different set of horrors. We found out the core cause only after the doc took her off BCP's in her 40's and I got the snippity do dah. All the depression just went away and my best girl reappeared.

I spent some time online and found that this is far more common that doctors tell us. I've also seen claims that over 75% of women diagnosed with depression is due to them taking BCPs. Not to mention weight gain and less severe personality shifts.

To be clear...I'm not anti-contraceptive in any way. But BCP's might be causing more problems than they are solving.

As for pecker picker upper pills...The vast majority of men who need them are at an age where they will probably not be pro-creating, so I think we can discount that factor. While I suppose ED is technically a medical condition, I don't consider it one that is so necessary to treat that our tax dollars or insurance premiums should pay for them. I would estimate that in 95+% of cases where men use Viagra type drugs, it is entirely and only for pleasure. And that is something that the individual should pay for. It's my understanding that these pills are waaaaaay more expensive than oral contraception as well.

Back in the old days before government mandates most employers covered "the pill" when prescribed for a medical condition but not for contraception only. It was that way for thirty years.

But we still need government to fix it. (eyes rolling).

I went on the pill after I was married. With the pill I became a raging angry person... felt awful, and went off them within 2 months instead of feel that way.

Once the government dictates what insurance must cover, the free market is no longer, there is no affordable choice for consumers.

It used to be to recruit, and retain good employees, companies had to up their game of the benefits they provided- medical insurance being one aspect of those benefits.

Until our country gets back to business, and full employment, government's involvement in insurance will guarantee premiums go up, and deductibles become so high all insurance is no more than catastrophic insurance. Catastrophic is fine if you can self insure for the small stuff when you are young and healthy. I carried catastrophic for a while... but paid next to NOTHING for it. When young and healthy, you don't need the type of insurance you do as you approach "golden" years
