Trump acquitted....again

It only demonstrates once again how nasty and filled with hate that the Democrats are.

My only hope is that they have awaken a sleeping giant that will defeat them in the next eletion.

Of course they talking about a 14th admin attack now.

They are doing their damnest to keep this about Trump, so that the Trumpers and Liberals don't see the sweetheart deals they are pushing through.

I found it interesting that the Dem house managers made a big deal out of wanting to call witnesses. The senate had a vote, where 6 republicans joined the dems to allow calling witnesses. Then the Trump defense team said, "OK, let's have witnesses. We have 300 we want to call". That seemed to scare the dems enough that they decided they didn't want to play this game anymore, and went straight to the conviction vote (which turned out exactly as predicted). I think the dems were scared of what might be revealed if some of their leadership were to be called up as witnesses and asked questions that would unmask their shenanigans.

I don't think the Dems wanted to be called as defense witnesses either in fear of being unmasked.

Next stop, 14th Amendment

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

I think the reason the Dems decided at the last minute not to call witnesses is because all witnesses would have to be deposed, which would take weeks to accomplish. They would have wanted to depose those who were close to Trump during the riot to see if Trump said anything to support the rioters. Those subpoenas would have been met with court challenges, which would have taken months if not a year to be heard. I think they decided the length it would take and the fact they were mostly dependent upon news media reports for evidence would not benefit them at all and go with the 14th Amendment.

I don't think they could get the votes in using the 14th Amendment. Besides that, I would have to question the constitutionality if they did succeed because Trump was acquitted by the Senate for the insurrection related charges. If they could get away with it, then it would be easy to use by trumping up charges of treason and insurrection for anybody without any evidence to prove it.
