They say 13 is a bad number...

Regarding the internet, I don't think we have as much to fear directly from the government as we do from the liberals who control much of the technology and social media. Google and Facebook, for example, are likely a bigger threat to a free internet than Uncle Sam is for now.

Yes... companies like Google and FB (well, the FAANG companies) need to be broken up... like the robber barrons were back when!

IMO one should stay aware of what is happening concerning the internet... it is too much an integral part of our lives...
And the folks that control it... ultimately control us.
Having the registry for websites and email addys moved out from the USA (THX BHO) is bad enough.

We are getting dangerously too close to an Orwellian society... and too few folks understand why that is a bad thing!

IMO, having the govt break up Google, Facebook, etc. would go against the idea of limited government and freedom and would be an example of asking the govt to do something that we, as consumers, aren't willing to do.

Google and Facebook provide many free services. Nobody is required to pay them a single dime for anything. Nobody is required to use their services and give them personal information. There are ways to use the internet without sharing personal information. Don't want to give Google your info? Well, then don't signup for a gmail address. There are many paid email hosting options that won't sell your data. There are other search engines instead of Google. Use a flip phone instead of a smart phone.

We, as consumers, are the reason Google and Facebook have become so dominant and now we are mad that they are dominant. Sure, they lean to the left in many cases but liberals were making similar arguments about talk radio (another free service that nobody is forced to use) leaning to the right years ago. They wanted to institute laws to essentially "break up" right wing talk radio and I bet most conservatives were against that (I know I was and still am).

Just my opinion...

Agreed. Competition is the solution.
