Sundays Are the Worst

How many of you ever worked in food service? How many go out to eat on Sunday after church?

When I was working in food service, there was a church in town that I despised because they would come in and be just incredibly rude, demanding, insulting, and unpleasant. They did something Wednesday, so they would come in after that, and they would come in on Sundays before their evening service. (We closed before their evening service was over.)

So, I really identified with the website Sundays are the Worst. It invites food servers to anonymously share their stories to hold a mirror up to Christians as to exactly how Christ-like their behavior is or isn't.

I don't eat out on Sundays, so I'm not sure what happens where I live, but I suspect some of the same stories from the website play out among the church crowd.

The wife and I were out of town eating lunch one Sunday afternoon.
The church crowd was out in force in this restaurant.
I told the wife to watch them, there was a table of 6 behind us and a table of 10 beside us, dressed in their Sunday go to meeting clothes.
They ran the waitress ragged and then I told the wife to watch how little they tipped.
The wife didn't believe me, but we watched and sure enough, they didn't tip 10%.
Yep, it was less than 10%.

While they were still getting their stuff together, I called the waitress over and in a loud voice I said something along the lines of, "Don't worry honey, we will tip enough to make up for those church people's miserly tips."
This was one of the few times the wife didn't tell me to "Hush up!"

We tipped enough to cover us and the amount the good people didn't leave.

Two worst groups of tippers:
(now I know that everyone here are exceptions to this rule, so don't be saying you're a good tipper, I know you are)

1. Church Groups
2. A group of women

I promise, it's true.

The church group we normally go out with on Sundays tips very well, normally 20% or more, unless the lack of service demands lower.

Well, they're not suppose to be working on Sundays anyway. :jk

I already said I knew that.
I wasn't just saying it, I figure that most if not all who post here are good tippers.
You seem like you would be anyway.

I knew that you already knew that I knew, I was just making sure you knew. Oh I've personally witnessed horrible "church groups" who do nothing short of taking advantage of the server. The Queen and I recently paid a tip for the table nearby after overhearing the lady customer being very rude and vulgar to the server. It went on the entire time we were there, when she came back to our table with our receipt I told her we're also tipping for the next table because we knew they wouldn't be leaving a tip. The server was extremely grateful and appreciated us noticing she did everything she could to please the customer.

Interesting. I do agree with church groups, as I have seen some less than good behavior from groups that have obviously just left church. I do not get that. :dunno As for the woman, I think most are pretty good to the servers as many have done that job, are moms, or are just woman and are compassionate to someone doing a job they would be doing at home. I have never been with a group of women that have not left good tips, ever. (I have been with ones that the server EARNED that tip, but they did still give a good tip. :)) ) I really have never heard that about women. :dunno

I kid you not, that is the top two.
But then y'all have to think, you are good people, you hang out with good people, of course your groups are not going to fit the profile.

Okay I will go with that :) , but still what makes those groups bad tippers?

Hahahahahahahaha, like I would answer that.
I want to live!!!

I avoid restaurants after church, most of the time, because the crowds can be so rude and the children are usually wild. I see more uninterested parents during those times, than any other. Ugh.

On the tipping thing. I tip well, and always have...unless the whole experience is really bad. Even then I give the minimum tip.

As An Evangelical Christian, I just have to say that this is one reason I hate people. Also, I think a whole lot of church folks are gonna have are rude awakening when they stand before the Lord.

I agree with Stradial (Lord, I apologize). Those 2 groups are historically the worst. I don't know the whys because for all the reasons listed, they should be the best.

We have a local restaurant that we go to almost every Friday night (when it's not football season). The young girls there know us and take good care of us. And they love to wait on us. We happened in Monday night (we were busy) and the young lady told us the next day was her birthday. The restaurant prices are not high at all. So, we doubled the tip for her birthday.

I'm going to go a step further. It's not just church folks - it's those sweet tea drinking church folks! I can't tell you the number of people that we have had lunch with after church say "if she lets my tea glass get to empty, it will cost her."

:BH :BH :BH :BH

Sadly, there is truth to the church crowd being some of the worst. I worked in fast food years ago, and we had some church groups on Sunday nights that would trash the place. The adults were bad enough, but the children were absolute hellions.

And I hear that many "church people" don't tip well.

I wish Christians would consider the image they portray, especially when they are in a situation that so clearly identifies them as such.

I'm all in favor of restaurants automatically adding a 15% gratuity to groups of 10 or more. This prevents these groups from taking advantage of their servers. If they have a complaint about the server, they can take it up with the manager. The servers work hard for these large groups while also taking care of customers at their other tables. I've never been a server, but it sure looks hard when there are a lot of people in a restaurant.

I found a good mexican restaurant in this little town.
One of the few places open today.
