Southerner\'s Eat Dirt?

That was a funny show! Always made me laugh. Julia Sugarbaker's tirades were hilarious.

I love her. She was so funny, and I just loved her accent.
At least Dixie Carter (God rest her soul) did indeed have a real southern accent. She didn't have to fake it.

I know! I hate when I see movies and shows when people fake a southern accent. It makes us all look like hicks.
It does. One of the reasons I just couldn't watch "The Closer," now called "Major Crimes." I had a feeling that Kyra Sedgwick is a Yankee, and sure enough she is.

It stereotypes we southerners as all sounding that way.

A couple of years ago, several of us on an international forum got into a discussion about this very thing. Knowing I was from Georgia, all the yankees thought I had that deep southern drawl that the movies portray. I had a couple of them call me so they could her me speak, and they were quite surprised that while I had a definite southern accent, I didn't sound anything like what they expected.

She is indeed a yankee, but she did a very passable Southern accent (her parents had real ones), so I am a big fan.

I'll tell you who did a killer Southern accent - Kenneth Branagh in the Grisham movie "Gingerbread Man". He played a lawyer from Savannah...it was STRIKING. There are probably several other actors who could do that as well (Hugh Laurie being one), but it's a pretty rare skill.

Dixie Carter was a peach in more ways than one. Lovely lady. And a conservative as well!

Love me some Julia Sugarbaker!

My friends in HS all told me that I "was" Julia Sugarbaker. They told me I had her style and class (don't know about that!) As an adult, I think it's funny that I shared her characteristics as a teenager! LOL

One of the worst for me was Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias. I mean, for cryin' out loud, she IS southern! Just let her speak the way she does, without the manufactured "Scarlet O'Hara" accent. I had a hard time getting past that to enjoy the movie.

AGREED!!! I saw Renee Zellweger in something, and she's from Texas and did the same. I wanted to slap her. Which i generally do anyway just because, but I really did then.
