was smashing mailboxes with a long stick in a neighborhood tonight. I was there to do a quick repair on one of the homes when I saw him walking towards me until he stopped to smash another mailbox. When I confronted him he just looked at me then continued to hit the mailbox. When I yelled at him to leave he started running towards me (more like a zombie trot, best description I can offer) while swinging the stick. I moved out of his way then told him he needed to leave, he never said a word or than a few mumbles. As he was leaving the neighborhood I grabbed my phone and got close enough to him to take a few pics, of course he didn't like that. I thought he was going to cross over a busy intersection and get hit by a car so I left him alone and went back to my vehicle. A lady walked down while talking on her phone, she had called 911 and saw the whole things. She said she had yelled at him from her window but he wouldn't stop for her either. Neither of us had ever seen him. Long story short, the police sent 3 cars and they eventually picked him up. I showed the officer the pictures I took and he confirmed it was the same person they picked up. The lady is pressing charges because he destroyed her mailbox which her husband had just replaced earlier this week after finding their old one destroyed last weekend. I decided not to press charges because he made no contact and it wasn't my property.

Good Job! I stopped being surprised at idiots a long time ago. Technically he could have been charged with assault for running toward you, swinging that stick.

I think I'll fill my mail box with concrete. That'll ring his bell! :faint

My sis has a neighbor that got tired of replacing her bashed in mailboxes. Her husband bought a big mailbox & a smaller one. He put the smaller inside the big one, and filled the void with concrete.

That's a great idea!! Mailboxes aren't cheap, especially if you're replacing them weekly. ;D

hard to file charges on a dead man! :elmergun I was in fear for my life!

J-Man, I would contact the Postal Inspector's office. They use to file federal charges for people caught doing this. I don't know if they still do.
