Are these live pistachios or dead pistachios?

Doesn't matter - even the pistachio powder in the Jello causes a reaction.

No, I took one bite out of a brownie that had pistachios in it. I was driving home from work. Driving in traffic isn't a good place to discover a food allergy.


The reaction to Watergate salad happened because I put some on my plate and just having it in such a close proximity to me and my food caused a minor reaction - hives, eyes getting watery and swelling. After that hubby banned Watergate salad.

Lisa, I trust you have an Epipen? GAH!!! That is so scary! I personally would make the salad and substitute another nut for the pistachios.

My grandma used to make Watergate salad just for me on the holidays,
nobody else in the family liked it... so it was ALL MINE. I always thought
it was special that she would make that one dish just for me.

I have it. Now, do I carry it with me all the time? :whistle


Honestly, I generally only carry it when we go to big dinners (like a pot luck at church). Cashews, pistachios and mangoes all provoke severe allergic reactions. Since I know this, I just tend to stay away from dishes that have them.
