An Amazon executive called the council's approach "hostile" and said it "forces us to question our growth here."

Amazon raised the stakes this month when it halted construction planning on a 17-story tower near its hometown headquarters as it awaited a vote. It also was rethinking filling office space in another leased building. The two office spaces would accommodate about 7,000 new Amazon jobs.

Council members who sponsored the initial proposal said $48 million annually wasn't enough to address the city's urgent housing needs but conceded they couldn't get the six votes needed for a larger tax and to override a potential veto by the mayor, who favored a smaller tax and faced intense pressure from businesses.

The Seattle city council approved a new tax on large employers Monday, drawing the ire of the city’s business juggernauts Starbucks and Amazon.

The council unanimously approved a tax that amounts to a yearly tax of about $275 per full-time employee, which came as a compromise after a $500 tax per worker encountered fierce pushback, the Associated Press reported. The tax is intended to combat homelessness and respond to what officials call a housing crisis, one in which rents have risen substantially in recent years.

I'm surprised Starbuck's is raising a fuss over a tax increase as they support liberal candidates all the time.

:D don't you just love irony ... or is it hypocrisy?

Look at the picture of the social justice warrior in the striped shirt I posted from the article :cheesy: couldn't pick a better representation of their patrons or supporters...:clap2::coffeespit:

If the influx of high paying jobs is what is causing the housing issues by driving up the cost of housing, then I indeed think they have found a way to fix that. Drive the high paying jobs away and price of housing will indeed fall. And the price of all the empty office space.

Seattle reverses course on 'Amazon tax' meant to help homeless

"Repealing the tax on jobs gives our region the chance to addresses homelessness in a productive, focused, and unified way," the group's president Marilyn Strickland said in a statement. "From day one, the Seattle Metro Chamber has been clear that a tax on jobs is not the way to address the regional homelessness crisis. Our business community is ready to work on solutions—from employment, to technological innovation, to housing."

Why is it so hard for liberals to understand the basics of capitalist economics?

Oh yeah, because they're Socialists.

The 'person' in the picture reminds me of the GM (manager) of a downtown business I handle the HVAC for...
About the same demeanor and masculinity also...
