S/O Of Father\'s Day Thread- Material Things

I suspect this is normal to some degree; but I've noticed that as I get older I don't care nearly as much about material gifts from people. Having fun and spending quality time with people I care about are of much greater value to me now.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Me. I haven't cares for material things for awhile now, as far as getting gifts. I'd rather have a night off, or a handmade card or something like that as far as receiving a gift. But mostly I prefer to spend time with my family.

So, with that said, MrB is getting what I got for Mother's Day. Nothing. LOL well, more time with his parents and a cook out like he wanted.

I love things... but I do love time with the fam even more

I usually tell people not to get me anything cause I get what I want or need throughout the year

I love my hubby dearly, but he stinks at picking out gifts - he once bought a dozen Snuggies to give to various family and friends for Christmas (he found them on sale for $5 each). He didn't understand why everyone wouldn't want one. For Mother's Day this year, hubby bought me a Keurig coffee pot. We have one, plus we have a Cuisinart Grind & Brew. He said that he just wanted to get me something and since he knew how much I love my Keurig, he bought me another one...

As for hubby, I spend the year making lists - any time he shows me something that he likes, I add it to his gift list so when it's time to get him something, I know exactly what to get. Although, I still haven't bought him the Springfield 1911 w/ a 5-1/4" barrel that he asked for over a year ago.

Okay really who is going to come in here and say they want material things more than spending time with their family. Just saying. :))

I will be honest. There are many material things I love. I want them. I know many of you do too. A new house, a new floor, a new tool, a new outfit. Nothing is wrong with that.

The only time I see something wrong with wants of material items is when that want is more important than wanting to be with your family (chosen or by blood) and I do not see that as an age thing. (or can not afford, but that is a different subject :)) )

I think we might have to get them together -- our 20 year anniversary is in September!

Im not a material person at all either...I have come to really look forward to the cards my kids get me cause they write me such sweet awesome notes inside and that makes my day! If I get a gift I am very appreciative of it no matter what it is cause whomever is giving it to me, took time to think of me and purchase something for me. That makes my heart happy :love

**note...except when I get clothes that are two sizes to big :laugh

Um, no... :poke2 you never buy bigger. If unsure of the size, go small, much smaller! My PSA of the day!

If I can suggest? Start a wish list on Amazon.com. Every time you see something that would be nice, add it to your list. Tell him how to find it.

I will admit to agreeing with SD.

There are some material things I enjoy. Won't break my heart if I never get them, but 'twould be nice.

Having said that, I've grown more fonder over the years of spending time with family and friends. When I was younger, there always seemed to be plenty of time to spend with them and I always seemed to see them enough. These days, there isn't time and I don't seem them nearly enough. A few have gone, :pray, and most are 4 1/2 hour drive from me now. I'm just thankful I have a wonderful woman in Mrs. Mac!

The only material thang I cannot do without is my computers. I gotta have a quality desktop (and need a new laptop) computer. I'm a long time gamer and a large majority of my work is computer based. As my wife calls it.... my mistress!

But I don't "collect" items, race cars or have any other habits that cost money. My PC is my entertainment.

There you go. Well said, sister.
