If drums and guitars are ok then why not other things, such as snakes? Why are some accepted as "proper" worship rituals and some not? I find this an interesting topic actually.

Again, it all goes to what you are in to. Some folks like drums and guitars, others love a good rattlesnake... To each their own.

Snake handling is one of the few religious practices that is outlawed in most states. In fact, I believe that it is only completely legal in West Virginia. Without going into biblical history here, which I am sure most of you could whoop me at, it is interesting that the passage from the gospel of Mark that they rely upon for this practice didn't appear until the first King James version of the Bible, and has been excluded from most modern versions.

The snakes I handle...

I'll probably step on some toes here...but while the KJV is a good Bible, it is far from being the best translation. King James was quite a scoundrel, and many believe that he put too many restrictions on the translators.

I prefer the NIV and my new favorite is the ESV.

My take on snake handling....it feels to me like people forcing God to prove his power to them. I don't need that.
