Well, sounds like simply another episode of your perception is not my reality.

All us humans up in here are different. What you may define as "uppity" may not have been intended as uppity and may not be perceived as uppity by someone else. Who gets to decide whose delivery is best? :dunno

I think the vast majority of Christians have the best of intentions; they just sometimes don't realize how they sound.

As J-Man mentioned; the best delivery often depends on the circumstances. And as a FB friend stated; you gotta listen for God to tell you what to say and how to say it. Admittedly, it's not always that easy though.

I'll give ya this one. Good answer.

But I will admit, I do respond better to the "shove and swift kick to the back side" approach than any other.

Just to set the record straight, I have no knowledge of his backside.

What's up with me preaching today, anyway? :brainfart

Yeah, what's up with this? :waggingfinger
Guess I'll just hang with you unsavory people! :cantbelievemyeyes

BTW...to clarify my "unsavory" remark in-case it came across wrong...

Most human beings, Christian or not, have a natural tendency to feel some disapproval of people who might not meet their personal standards. I believe Jesus' teachings were that we should not do that, that we should strive to treat everyone as equals. Jesus hung out with all sorts of people that we might tend to look down our noses at if we just act on our natural responses.

I think that Christians do not have a lock on the holier than thou thing.
I have met many people from other religions and from no religion that have that same attitude.
It is a human problem.
Many good points have been made and for me, one of the best was that different people respond to different ways things are put. And the same person will respond differently depending on their mood and what is going on with them at the time.

I think that it better to sow your seed in ground that is receptive to growing that seed at the time.
Rather than sowing your seed in ground that is hard and non receptive, perhaps life will in time, soften up that ground and make it more receptive, then you will have the seed ready to be sown.

Does anyone know what in the heck I am trying to say?
If so please explain it to me, cause with all that sowing I got lost.

Should I stir up this conversation with what I think?

You absolutely should because I'm about to do it too!!!

Personally, I think it's time we stop tiptoeing around the whole topic. People think that if we proclaim the word of God, we are being judgmental? :cantbelievemyeyes You need to read the Word a little more often. This is what we are commanded to do. We are not told to just sit by and just pray for people to reach out to God, we are told to "go out and make disciples." We can't do this if we don't tell folks about Him. If they feel judged, then that's not me - it's the Holy Spirit AND that is exactly what is supposed to happen!!

Folks want to get offended when they hear about Jesus and the fact that He died on the cross for us. That's right, He was strapped up on that cross for GD's sin, for BS's sin, for my sin, and for everyone elses. But wait, we can't say that because someone might feel judged and get offended. :cantbelievemyeyes

Jesus didn't just preach to those who wanted to hear it, He preached to EVERYONE out in the open. He walked through the streets and would stop and preach. He didn't soften his approach because someone might feel convicted. Remember the Pharises? They felt convicted when Jesus called them out. They crucified Him.

I need more coffee.... :BH :BH :BH :BH :BH

LisaC, you just don't get it.

No one said Christians shouldn't proclaim the word of God. But for God's sake (literally), we should use some tact and present it in a way that interests others in it instead of driving them away.

Too often, we blow it. I don't think we usually mean to, but sometimes we're over-zealous, poorly trained, and sometimes we just have an attitude that we're somehow better than they are. The latter is what tics me off, and why I posted the scripture above. Sorry, but doing it that way doesn't win souls. In fact, it usually drives people away and makes them think Christians are a bunch of arrogant jerks.

You mentioned Billy Graham in FB. What a wonderful example of what a Christian witness should be! Bold in his faith and always ready to tell others about Jesus; but he never ever came across as arrogant or above those who he spoke to.

This is what bothers me about your post - mostly because I am not arrogant and over-zealous when it comes to telling folks about Jesus. I generally wait until they ask so those comments don't apply to me. The problem I have with what you posted is that we are watering down the truth. We are telling people what THEY want to hear and sometimes that means that we are changing what the Word of God says. That is not what we are called to do.

P.S. Billy Graham has no tact. He will flat out tell you that we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.
