Proposed 2012-2013 calendar now posted

Neither are the teachers. Nor are they happy with the start date because of pre-planning. LOL :happydance: does not impact me next year.

My opinion is - does not apply. ;)

Yes, the Christmas break is a little bit shorter. Meh.

I don't think the shorter was the issue. I think it was the date. Heck there were to many complaining for me to follow to closely! (private board)
I also think it is not weighted right, but I just glanced at it last week when I posted it. (equal days for Dec and May semester ends, but again I did not count)

Yikes ... you think the Christmas break issue is stirring people up for this next year, look at the one for the year after ... the kids are out 9 days and go back for a Friday as their first day back after the break. :huh :huh

I am happy with the calender ... I looove it!!! Not one complaint here

You can't make everyone happy... but they made me happy

I use to not like some of the breaks cause I was dumb and left PC school system for a full time Paraprofessional job in Douglas. My dd was always off when I was at work lol

I just don't like how the break is broken up...a couple days off, then a week, followed by a couple more. It is just odd to me.

If they would take away some of the dang week long breaks, they could push the start date back. Absolutely ridiculous...

I LOVE THOSE BREAKS lol

I guess I am the odd ball who likes all the breaks, an early start and a May finish

Obviously not, since we still have them. :))

I actually like them, too. We are fortunate in that they do not cause childcare issues for us and the breaks are a nice break in the routine. Nevermind that I am a firm believer in a more balanced school year ... so it's either a few week-long breaks or a bunch of 3-day weekends to make it work.

I am however glad the half days are gone... those were annoying

My problem with the breaks is that they make no sense. Why do you need a week long break every other month? School shouldn't start until after Labor day and it should be done by Memorial day. All the breaks do is disrupt routines!

LOL...I have no dog in this fight after May. :( There are numerous studies that go both ways regarding breaks and retention. I have always liked the breaks because everyone is not trying to go somewhere in the summer and prices for vacations are better at different times of the year. I also liked it because I felt my son would be getting burned out at times and just when that seemed to happen a break would be there. :) (This also goes for many teachers that in the climate they are teaching in need the breaks! :)) Though none of them are liking the really early start to where they are going back for pre-planning in July)
