Interesting article on Patch Paulding County Chamber: Myths Vs. Facts on Silver Comet Field

A fact sheet put out by the Paulding County Chamber hopes to dispel concerns about the Silver Comet Field.

Myth: The Paulding County Board of Commissioners dealt in secret to push this airport deal through.
Fact: The deal to bring commercial air travel and other services to Paulding followed the standard process for these types of business developments. Many aspects of the development process were discussed openly at public meetings of the Paulding County Airport Authority over the past year. These
meetings were attended by members of the community and, occasionally, the local media.
The reality is that an opportunity for economic growth such as this is extremely rare. When Silver Comet Terminal Partners approached the Paulding County Airport Authority regarding the prospect of bringing
commercial and other business to Silver Comet Field, the authority pursued the opportunity expediently so that it wouldn’t lose out to competitors.

I like that they are trying to dispel some of the rumors running through Paulding. Still not agreeing or disagreeing with the airport just that I like that the chamber is trying to get out some information.

Their facts are not true facts, there is no way to gauge jobs or traffic on something that doesn't exist, many of their "facts" are pure speculation.

Did you know that de-icing is toxic to plants and animals?

Be watching for a true fact checker to their facts. ;)

In their press release they said it was not the Chamber's job to dispel myths, but here we are. :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh

Oh and I do believe the Chairman of the AA did say this airport would never have commercial flights. So that Chamber fact is destroyed.

Check this out at the 3:15 minute mark.

I will.

De-icing, well I am assuming that since you posted that it is, it is. I am sure there is more than just that on the list of chemicals harmful to us and animals. That is why I do not eat half of what others do. :)

I do give them credit for trying to help get information out. There have been many rumors on both sides and I do not take any facts as gospel, mostly because when it comes to certain things, it is a "could be" scenario, and I am positive for every study given to me by one side the other could produce one saying the exact opposite.

As I have said I do want the airport to succeed, I am just unsure if this is it, but I am keeping an open mind to it if the bonds are approved and the FAA gives the go ahead.

So basically what he's saying is that there's a chance that there would be commercial flights at the airport. :D :D :D I love how he says "let me stress" and goes on to say "no commercial airliners at this airport". Lovely.

Yea, here's the Chamber/Silver Comet Field Myth vs Fact on this:

Myth: The Paulding County Airport Authority told residents it would never allow commercial airlines.

Fact: The Airport Authority made no such statement. It is true that initial plans for the use of the airport did not include commercial air travel, and instead focused on developing it as a center for maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) work. However, no usage plans were ruled out. Due to a variety of developments in the following years, the Airport Authority determined that commercial travel was also a realistic possibility, and decided to pursue development to accommodate both commercial and MRO

How did Calvin Thompson the AA Chairman not remember he said this? :dunno

He is old? :)) IDK that is very odd, especially since if you could easily find that, they should be able to also. :dunno

(again thank you for not making me watch the whole thing! :)) )

Do you know if there is a written plan or projection for Paulding that did have that commercial as a possibility? I believe I read one at one time, but that could be my lack of sleep and I could be hallucinating that there was one. :))

There was a plan in the 70s, a complete plan with interstates, Marta and a second airport. It was on the 10,000 acres Atlanta bought. This is not part of that, well I think they sold the county 160 acres. Atlanta abandoned the concept after the citizens showed up at the capital by the bus loads.

They built way too many subdivisions since then, IF they had done this back when it wouldn't affect as many people. We were told the plan was dead, in 1998 the county dug it up again. The citizens again voted against the airport and any and all bonds necessary for the airport. They built it anyway, with the promise of "no commercial airlines".

The promised jobs and economic advantage have never been realized. They probably never will, who is going to drive to Paulding County when Hartsfield is closer for most people? They have no promises, no prospects, no one interested in moving their businesses to Paulding because of the airport. We are not closer for people in Marietta, Douglasville or Alpharetta. Discount airlines associated with small airports are notorious for rescheduling flights.

Not to nit-pick but ... regardless of the feelings of the people as they cast their votes, Paulding County didn't for or against having an airport. The votes were about funding it. I do understand that there were people that voted against funding it because they did not want it but that's not the same thing.

(not being argumentative ... I just like facts)

You ask those people and they will tell you they voted "against the airport". Yes the ballot was for bonds to fund the airport, but that's not how they saw it. We were told it wasn't going to cost a dime for the taxpayers. We knew better, the county has already spent over 3.5 million dollars on this airport since it was built without the 3.6 million more they want now. This was testimony at the bond hearing on December 2 from Tabitha, the finance director of Paulding County.

So yes they voted against funding it but the taxpayers have been funding it since they first broke ground. That was their first broken promise.

That is some of the reason I lean more towards having some kind of money being made there. We have it, it has been underutilized, yet we fund it. Is there any other project or suggestion that has been put forth to the BOC that would be better for Paulding?

You are going to build a reservoir at the airport? Interesting. :whistle

Let me clarify. Is there any other project or suggestion that has been put forth to the BOC that would be better for Paulding airport?
