This is a candidate who graduated from a Georgia high school in 2013. I see this type of resume all the time and it saddens me to see high school graduates who cannot compose sentences to reflect a high school education, nor do they have any idea how important a resume is.

So did he get the job and does it pay at least $15/hr?
This resume hit my email today, so I haven't called him yet. I'll call him in for an interview and I'll show him what is wrong with his resume. I'll ask him to rewrite it and send it in again. If he can improve it, I will interview him at a later time as he demonstrated he can take instruction well.

You have more patience than I do. Resumes like that go directly to the trash when I get them.

On second thought, probably not worth wasting the time over. Next....

I'm curious in seeing how this guy interviews - seriously. I remember when I was in high school, we learned how to compose a resume and how to interview.

Life skills, like how to address an envelope, balance a checkbook and write a resume have long since been pushed out of school by the testing addenda of big government.

Ironically, the internet is a factor behind it as well. The relaxed online writing style, the lack of capitalization that comes from computer code, and the Instant Messenger type of short cuts have dumbed us down somewhat.

And we're forced to eat out all the time because nobody knows how to cook anymore.

When is the last time you addressed an envelope? What is a checkbook?:p I did not have resume writing in school, though I do think it is a good skill to have.

If you're in business, pretty frequently. We still have to sometimes handwrite checks from the operations office. And we frequently have to mail letters or documents that are "onesies" not worth printing.

Address an envelope every 3 months when the garbage is due as he only sends a card as the bill. :) Balance the checkbook every month, but I do it on Quicken, so not quite as bad as the "Good ol' days". I check and balance the credit cards as well and you'd be surprised how many mismatches I find.

I don't blame the Internet for the relaxed writing or lack of capitalization; I blame the school system as it is becoming apparent they are not adequately teaching it. I'm not making an assumption as I far more resumes like the one I gave as an example, than I do good ones. Is it the system or is it the teachers. Most likely both.

This is a good video with Simon Sinek discussing millennials. Note what he says about how teachers inflate grades so they don't have to tell with parents who think their children are "special."
