Otto Warmbier dead; former US prisoner of North Korea was 22

NK didn't want him to die in their custody so that is why they released him before he died. They are holding 3 other Americans also.

:(

Yeah, we broke him, sorry, you can have him back now. They didn't even bother to make up some lie about some sort of accident, just "here he is".

Such a sad outcome. Over a stupid propaganda poster that he thought would be fun to take home with him as a souvenir.
Welcome to a communist dictator.

We are lucky to live in the USA.

I'm sorry for the kid and his family for sure. That said, who in the world picks freaking North Korea as a place to visit? Hey afterwards you can jump over venezuela for fun. People just do not understand that most of the world is not like here. You have no rights there.

North Korea is not the place to find out you're not in Kansas anymore. I really hate it for his family, I really do, but they raised a real dummy. Actually I'm sure there's a back story we're not privy to at the moment. All I know is things better stay relatively quiet for the next two weeks because we leave Saturday for Hawaii and don't need an international incident involving NK.

I think North Korea loves to take prisoners because they get to gain world attention. Sad little men that they are. I would never go near that boarder... let alone in the country.

I remember this kidnapping by the North Korean Government: The sisters of Lisa Ling. Lisa was, at the time, a well known host on a TV show.

On March 17, 2009, journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling were apprehended by North Korean soldiers while filming a documentary along the China-North Korea border. The two women were charged with illegal entry for crossing into North Korea — and after several months of interrogation by North Korean officials, sentenced to 12 years of hard labor in one of North Korea's prison camps.
They detail their infrequent phone conversations, in which Laura was able to tell Lisa that the only way she and Euna would be released was if a special envoy — former President Bill Clinton — traveled to Pyongyang to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Clinton made the trip in August 2009, after Laura and Euna had spent 140 days in captivity, and helped secure their release.

I don't understand why any US citizen would want to go there either as it's common knowledge this sort of thing happens often.

I agree Boss. I won't even go into Atlanta if there is any possible way to avoid it. Being skeered ain't got nothing to do with it. I just don't like paperwork unless it has "MANUSCRIPT" written at the top.

The US should have banned all travel to North Korea a long time ago.

They'd just go to somewhere else first. Kinda like the Cuba "blockade". They'd head to Canada first, who had tour trips set up to Cuba.

No, in my opinion, banning is outside of the governments scope of operations. There should be a dire warning against going there and the government should clearly state that you go there at your own risk, that the US will not attempt to get you out of the consequences of your own actions in going there.

Come to think of it, I think I have a government program that could save our country:

The government will provide an all expenses paid trip to North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, Congo, Chad, Libya, South Sudan or some other garden spot in the world to any citizen that requests to go.

All of these "Americans" who think they should get everything "free" and pay no attention to warnings because all the world loves them would take the trips as their "due".

After two weeks in these countries, they will either be arrested and/or shot for protesting, complaining against some government regulation, or action *or* for those who actually have working brains see what *real* poverty and oppression looks like and come back as realists about just how good we have it here and turn Conservative. (Not GOP, I'm not sure *they* are conservative any more.)

Either way it would reduce those that do nothing but complain about our country.

Think that would work?
